Maybe someone can help me out.
Has anyone ever met face to face with 'someone' who has sent a picture of 'themselves' with the type of pin attachment that you get on email?
My experience has been those pictures which happen to clearly show faces and have been so readily sent have NEVER resulted in a meet!
Now you know why Conspiracy Theory's start. |

"I'm not quite sure what you mean, so I'll go ahead and say no" By pin attachment I mean a picture sent with that same little pin attachment sign you get on emails.

"Yes I have.
Normally it was men who didn't want face photos on the site, but when asked sent them directly from there phones. " How is that done, do you know? I mean the practicalities. How would they get the picture to me? |

So on a mobile if you click on attach photo it gives you the option to send a photo direct from your phone. You know its been sent directly because it has the paperclip and says sent directly. |

1. If people set up fake short term profiles. Which will appear on the regular site updates.
2. They then could access you on Fab by photo and message once you have messaged in response to that update.
3. Via a route not checked by fab admin, (I have been told this by Private message) the direct messaging route which is on mobile phones, so I have been told.
4.The photo and message are only viewable for 24hrs, so I have been told by Private message.
5. Which is still 24hrs of influence.
6. Also Private messaged that site rules apply, unchecked communications are not subject to any site rules I would think.
7. A fake profile could jump on and off, after having 'genuinely' provided photo verification.
8. But with no intention of having a genuine profile
9.. With the ability to ghost (ghosting)?
10. A group of people could have a field day pulling this stunt!
11. How to gain friends and influence people!
12. Seems like too much brainwork for you? Bear with me.
13. If I am wrong about any of this feel free to contribute. |

The messages are still sent from an account within FAB, the only difference with the Direct Photo feature makes, is that the picture doesn't need to be uploaded into FAB first. The theory is that you could use it to take a selfie and send it to show exactly what you look like now.
It also means that the pictures Do-Not go through any checking service... you can use this to send pictures of anything, regardless of whether it's against the Fab Picture Rules.
It CAN-NOT be sent from any app other than The FAB Mailbox.

I really think that you're overthinking this whole situation.
The picture attachments that you're talking about are an addition to the regular private messaging system, it's as simple as that.
As for this semi paranoid diatribe; if it worries you so much, then don't interact with new profiles until they're at least a few weeks old. Problem solved

Part of the solution probably is to direct message back, showing what I look like now. Though that way could still be open for abuse as I could send a photo from any source. Or they could. |

The solution to your problem would be to block new members from mailing you (this can be done through your message preferences, you can block 'newbies', unverified, non-supporters etc.)
The message you are sent from a mobile phone is no different than the message you are sent from a computer, aside from the fact you can attach a picture from your mobile phone. |

Does what source the photos come from matter? All my photos on here are loaded from my phone as are any photos I send in direct messages? How do you know what sources any photo comes from as they all come through fab ultimately? |

Whilst I understand the spirit of the enquiry OP, I think you are over-thinking this one. I think when responding to any messages you have to consider the message you have received and whether you want to respond to it.
Fakes get removed fairly quickly from here in my experience. I tend not to respond to unverified (photo or personal) people, but thats my preference. As I have no real need to be discrete, I can comfortably have a face pic on my profile, so seldom send one in a message, I certainly wouldn't respond to a demand for one (or a profile that demands one).
With all things internet we run the risk of exposure, if the realisation of that risk would cause you problems, then use the site carefully, but bear in mind that very few people will not meet you without having seen a face pic. If someone sends you one and you are attracted to them, the choice to reciprocate is yours |
