I do not sleep in the arms of a lover it is not my place or fate

I know not the tender touch of desire for me there’s no soulmate

My breath is light, my heart shallow, the grey man alone in the crowd

Where once I strode the world like colossus, I was felled, no longer proud

Words danced for me and I twisted them, wove in seducing nets

But dust blows faded photographs and stings eyes to fill with regrets

I roamed this world as tumble, cocksure and full of right

Now days are lost to evenings and a cold and lonely night

Self assured and full of bluster I’d run rough-shod oo’er all

Hidden disdain for all of the foolish, now who’s the greater fool

Clever will get you money, and smart won’t leave you poor

But lonely is the clever man, lonely for ever more

Life is but a series of dances and this I know is true

When young and touch by vigour, this world is all anew

As age creeps up upon us, we may waltz in the summers moonlight

We learn that life is hard but we are readied for that fight

One cannot dance alone my friend we cannot be half kissed

So live your life with another or prepare to just exist
