It tastes all wrong if you add the milk first.. Tea that is.. I dont drink coffee so cant tell you about that.
In all honesty tea I often drink without milk.
but if making it with.. I boil the kettle... put the water in either the cup or teapot and leave the tea to brew for at least 5 mins.
Then I take the teabag out if its in the cup.. or stir if in the teapot.. then add any sugar.. then add milk if required..
To be honest if drinking any old tea you may not notice the taste difference.. but with nice proper teas.. you really will.
also I can not stand tea that looks like you dipped the teabag in the milk.

"If milk is poured into hot tea, individual drops separate from the bulk of the milk, and come into contact with the high temperatures of the tea for enough time for significant denaturation - degradation - to occur. This is much less likely to happen if hot water is added to the milk." - Dr Andrew Stapley

Apparenty (according to my Ex) there is a chemical reaction between the milk and 'heat' so which way around you do it, does affect the taste... I think that's what he said anyway
I also read that inferior 'china' teacups needed the milk added first to avoid the cup cracking, so really posh folks would add the milk 'after' to show off their posh cups
of course I always add the milk after |

All true tea lovers not only like their tea strong, but like it a little stronger with each year that passes. (Quote by - George Orwell)
Never trust a man who, when left alone in a room with a tea cozy, doesn't try it on. (Quote by - Billy Connolly)
As long as it's hot, wet, and goes down the right way, it's fine with me. (Quote by - Sarah Ferguson)
A woman is like a tea bag - you can't tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water. (Quote by - Nancy Reagan)
I would rather have a cup of tea than sex. (Quote by - Boy George)

China cups retain heat longer than normal clay-fired ones, thus keeping the tea/coffee hotter for longer, which in turns keeps it brewing while you're drinking it. |

"It's really this simple, make a pot of tea, however you like, then pour two cups.
Cup A: add milk first
Cup B: add milk second.
Taste.
Cup A will taste better, case closed.
Silly internet people."
doh... cup B will taste better |

Ok, for the doubters, who seem to be many here.
Drink some fresh milk.
Drink some milk that has been heated.
Which tastes better ?
The fresh milk of course.
Adding tea to milk lessons the heating up process of the milk, therefore making the milk in the tea taste fresher and consequently making the cup of tea taste better.
Case closed ( again ). |

This is a class issue if ever their was one. working-class people used to put the milk in first to cool the tea as it went into the mug as otherwise its poor quality meant it was liable to crack. also if you found that the milk was off you didnt waste the tea....
the argument is somewhat redundant as any purist knows that you brew your tea in a pot anyway.......whilst the tea is brewing you can be eficient and put the milk and sugar in then poor through the strainer

"never said how i do it.i put milk in second ,reason being i can get the strenth just right.if i had put milk in first and it was 2 milky, have 2 tip it away."
Test the strength of the tea by pouring a bit into the sink.
Then all you have to do is not put too much milk in your cup.
( Hate disagreeing with Oscar Wilde on this one, btw ) |
