Jo Brand made a joke on the radio along the lines that people should not throw milkshakes at MPs when they could throw acid...

BBC are refusing to apologise and Theresa May is not happy.

A joke too far ?

Not at all, over zealous, easily offended people in the world today.

Jo Brand rocks!

Should we not evaluate the context and intent before we evaluate the offence?

Damn them pesky comedians, when will they ever learn that this is not a country of humour. Down with that sort of thing. Careful now..

nope.... because there is a lot of "selective editing" going on of what what actually said....

Brand, speaking after Mr Farage and a number of far-right European election candidates were covered in milkshakes during campaign walkabouts in May, said "Why bother with a milkshake when you could get some battery acid?"

The comic then went on to immediately make clear she was joking and criticised the milkshake stunts.

"That's just me. I'm not going to do it," she said. "It's purely a fantasy, but I think milkshakes are pathetic, I honestly do, sorry."

the last bit seems to have been missed out in a lot of the faux outrage....

I mean...it not like farage has said he would "take a rifle" to everyone concerned if he didn't get the brexit he wanted... oops he did!

I haven't heard it in its full context but given the current climate and our general appetite for soundbites, I think she's got a case to answer.

I would just like to point out that Josephine Brand, a married ex nurse and mother of two daughters wasn't being interviewed. Jo Brand the stand up comedian was being interviewed.

One is a real person and one is a television/radio character. A bit like Al Murray/Pub Landlord, a bit like David Bowie/Ziggy Stardust, a bit like Jean Alexander/Hilda Ogden to name but a few.

Well is ok for the character of a Soap Opera to kill someone? Is it ok for song lyrics to say "I'm gonna snack your bitch up".

At what point is the cross over from someone who we all know and only know as a (bad) stand up comedian to differentiate them as their realistic true voice?

You posed the Question OP, do you care to offer your opinions?
