Seeing all the controversy about this online is really starting to boil my piss!

Why can people not understand that representation of fat bodies is not the same as promoting being fat?!

It’s literally a mannequin wearing leggings

Yet folk are raging

So silly

The people who are raging are the same people who would point and laugh at a plus size person as they worked out in the gym. It’s ridiculous.

Body shaming does my head in whether you are fat or thin...as a plus size person the amount of cruel remarks I get and funnily 99.9% of the comments come from men.

So much irony that they all say it’s “glorifying obesity” yet apparently we also shouldn’t be encouraging people to exercise and be fitter by facilitating appropriate workout clothes. Ridiculous.

Why is it body shaming to not like the overweight mannequins but not body shaming when everyone rallied to get the underweight out of shops?

Genuine question from a size 4 girl who cant find jeans any more

It is!

All sizes should be represented!

Inclusivity is the answer.

I think if anyone is allowed use plus size models it should be sports companies promoting a healthy life.

The adverts with overweight women dancing around the beach should be banned though. They are pretty women, but they are 100% promoting being overweight, and its becoming a huge financial burden as obesity and diabetes take hold.

I'm a healthy person and I have to pay tax on sugar because of fat people, why not tax their clothes instead?

All body types should be represented.

Sadly though most shops do still use mannequins that are ridiculously tall and if they were real life people they’d have an underweight BMI

Body shaming is body shaming, whether it’s to the ‘too’ fat or to the ‘too’ thin.

Why should we pay extra to simply exist in our bodies?!

They aren’t promoting obesity, they’re promoting body acceptance. I’m not going to write that being fat is healthy, but feeling accepted is healthy and goes onto promote healthier lifestyles.

I don't get the fuss, well the negativity anyway. Nike sell sports wear to women of all shapes and sizes. Do women of all shapes and sizes not wear sports wear? I see plenty of women in gym of all shapes and sizes. I don't think it sells an unhealthy imagine. Do larger ladies like Saracens and England Prop Bryony Celall give an unhealthy image? It seems to me a smart and more progressive move to better represent their clothes on a range of the body shapes of their customers. Sports clothes and fitness are for everyone regardless of size, shape or level of fitness.

Also on a shallower note I'm far more attracted to the body of the new larger mannequin than the others

"Why can people not understand that representation of fat bodies is not the same as promoting being fat?!

"

Some people are just stupid.

This company simply wants to make money. Some guy high up has gone; "Hey Jimmy, sales aren't looking so good! How can we improve?".. "Why don't we sell to fat people instead of just thin people? If we did that, instead of selling to only 10m people, we can sell to 30m!".. "Jimmy! Go and get yourself a cigar and take the rest of the day off...".

It's just a business move and some silly people taking offense at the slightest little thing.

I don't get why it's outrageous to allow bigger, or even average, women to imagine themselves in the products being presented by showing someone like themselves.

I'm pretty sure shaming is correlated with weight gain. But people are much more interested in getting on their high horse than actually helping.

I've started losing weight after deciding that I don't give a damn what other people think about my body. Come join me ladies and gents (and everyone else). It's lovely over here. (losing weight or trying to lose weight not required)

Worlds gone mad.

Adverts get taken down on London Underground because it’s an unrealistic depiction of a model being “beach ready”

Now this bollocks. What’s the alternative having a fatties section at the back of the shop where they can shop in Shame until they attain a standard size.

People need to start somewhere on the fitness road and the mannequin is a sign of the times.

People should help the people.

I’m fat, I’m 6ft tall have no health issues my kidney and liver is fine I’m way below the risk of getting diabetes, my heart is healthy I don’t have high cholesterol and my confidence is at its highest it’s every been.

The adverts with plus size women is much needed and has been for years. I walk on average 6 miles a day. If someone has a problem with me being fat that’s their problem I am not going to change for anyone apart from myself. We live in a society where people will judge on looks alone, however they fade what is important is looking at a persons soul...that doesn’t lie...

Acceptance is key and one that is important it’s a sorry state of affairs that I’ve been away from the forums for 12 months and this argument still takes place from a community that should be the least judgemental after all people are happy to have their sausage in a strangers flange or vice Versa but not accepting enough that as humans we are all shaped just a little bit different.

I was body shamed by someone at work this week.

The post was a group of large people on a beach and it said love island ******* the person commented ****** do you wanna join.

At first I didn’t realise until a family friend saw the post and sent my mother a angry msg asking why the person had done that (this person has no idea about my issues with food or the fact I’m recovering from bulimia).

I don’t believe the person meant it the way it came out- but then I do wonder.

I don’t particularly get on with this person rather than let my friends kick off which they would I removed it.

It’s affected me since along with something else that’s happened my confidence is back to 0 and every time I eat I’m being watched like a hawk.

It's against forum rules to use the forum to contact someone who has blocked you and/or to post about being blocked by someone (as you have just done)

It is not against forum rules to reply to someone's comment, if they have blocked you, on the forum as long as it is relevant to the conversation at hand

Exactly. If anything it's going to encourage women to work out knowing that they can get quality sports wear that actually fits them

A lot of gym/ sport environments feel a bit hostile to people who aren't already gym fit or at least thin. The attitude needs to change for the sake of public health.

If any shop is going to sell clothes to fit a certain size then it is only right that they have mannequins/models to demonstrate how that product looks on that size/shape body!

It shouldn't have anything to do with "body shaming", "encouraging obesity" or "promoting the unhealthy"....the customer has the right to see the product "In action" it's just good business practice!

i personally think that there is a load of fuss over nothing, having bigger models is not encouraging people to be fatter. Saying you can be healthy at any size is causing problems, I have a bmi over 30 and am classed as obese which I am now taking steps to loose weight to become healthier.

Being big doesn’t make anyone less of a person, but they should be helped to loose weight to a healthy weight so that the world can have the benefit and pleasure of there continued existence for a long time. It’s not to “shame” them and it should never be put across that way but a push to keep them around longer.

People hate change, and also will jump on the whole "it promotes an unhealthy image" wagon just to have a chance to fat shame. What these people don't realise is that plus size women have a ridiculous time trying to find clothes, because you either have the choice of seeing them on thinner models and not knowing what they look like on a plus size person, or shopping in one of these catalogues that caters solely to plus size women, but use exceptionally tall women who are a size 16/18, making the weight distribute differently and making them look not much different from a slim model. It's pretty ridiculous if you ask me, that any time anything is done to cater to plus sizes, people have to shout it down because they can't see past their own nose
