Disheartened with people

hiding from cock pics.

Does anybody else get disheartened with people, there are so few people that I actually manage to maintain respect for, and sometimes it makes me feel a little bit cynical.

Does anybody else ever feel like that.

I think I'm an animal person, they are so much more real, loyal and consistent.

It's not just on this site, its in all aspects of my life, although I think it can be easier to see people's traits sometimes on here.

Do you have ways of taking a view and finding ways to maintain respect for people who often don't even seem to respect themselves in the way that they behave and treat others?

I try to see the good in people, but I feel as I age it's getting harder and harder to tolerate many people.

I could possibly be the next cat lady!

Normally I feel like I'm good at accepting people and taking the good and the bad as an interesting mixture.

Today I'm not really feeling that. Any tips to get me back into harmony with the human race?

I think it’s an age thing. I’m getting worse as I get older. I don’t have much tolerance at all now for idiots and negativity. I can’t stand cats either though

I completely sympathise with all of that, except the cat lady bit. I've been misanthropic since I was a teenager. Unfortunately there is no cure, you just have to deal with people the best you can.

I think there's more good people out there than bad.

You can choose which you focus on.

You can't change other people, but you can change your own outlook on life.

You can sit there and feel helpless and think the world is a terrible place, or you can go out and do something that makes a difference.

I'd recommend some voluntary work, loads to choose from.

Worked for me.

I think it's easy to misunderstand individuals and what drives them. However yeah, on the whole people can be crap

Yeah I can relate OP. I think the worst comes out online because of the anonymity of it all but I feel there's more stories of intolerance and general cruelty going around now than ever before but maybe it was always bad we just hear about it more with social media and instant news. I guess maybe just try and switch off from it do something creative, I usually write when I feel down or like things are getting to me. Sometimes just putting my emotions into words helps.

It’s definitely an age thing I think, we all get less tolerant of the bs people chuck out there the older we get. Can I be the crazy cat man or is that not a thing??

I don't really feel down, I feel strong and independent in myself, but that seems to be part of it.

I seem to have lost faith in the people around me that although I do care about certain people, I just don't have faith in people very much.

I feel that I have and show loyalty, empathy, care and honesty, and when I look at the world and the things that are going on and also at the people that I'm in contact with, I'm less able to relate and connect on a deeper level.

It's not that I feel down, it's almost that I feel that I don't want to spend a lot of time particularly around other people because I have everything within myself that I need and other people become harder to tolerate.

I can definitely relate OP

I am not a people person at all.

It is definitely an age thing - a couple of my female friends feel the same way.

I'm disheartened by the youth of today although went to Oxford the other day sat down on a bench outside one of the grand university buildings in beautiful gardens to have my lunch and got chatting to a really lovely young guy studying French philosophy at Oxford he was not only interesting but interested, so there is hope

I’ve always been an animal lover and if I’m honest a people person . But as I’ve got older my tolerance has diminished and with it my expectations of others . Yes cynicism can creep in but generally my ethos is about being the best I can be for my own well being and mindset . Always remember the only thing you can control is you

There was a thread the other day, the lady OP was feeling down and a stranger noticed her and made her feel better. Some people are nice. Maybe search out stories like that?

Ive taken myself away from most situations that involve other people. I am in general quite self contained too with the exception of a few close people I enjoy being with. I dont think its a bad thing as long as you aren't feeling lonely or isolated. People can be generally hard work. Xx

Travelling

There are very few people I truely enjoy the company of. It takes a lot to win me over, though I respect everyone unless I am given a reason to change that view about a person - does not mean I have to like them though!

I don't take to new people quickly, or at least not often, a few have surprised myself though.

The more I see/hear of people I don't like/relate to the more I enjoy the company of the small group I do like.

I'm really glad that so many people relate, and it seems like it's not an abnormal way to feel about the world around me. I have no malice or bad feeling towards anyone, I just enjoy my own company and feel self-sufficient more and more and find myself biting my tongue so often in the company of others due to their behaviour, intention or actions.

Stop feeding your cat and see how loyal, loving and consistent they are. They will be out your life and cosied up at number 3 before you know it

I don't like people. I like individuals but I don't like people.

I have less patience and tolerance for people, particularly narcissistic people.

It's been more prevalent in me as I've got older. I just don't want to waste my energy on drama!

Yep people can be disheartening and the internet makes it worse as you can message someone and they don't reply for days or never at all. Social media can cause disheartenment as you can view others as having more fun than yourself. Also the internet has caused some people to loose their real life social skills.

I think some people in general have become more entitled. Some people seem less willing to help each other out ect these days x

I think we are all probably in the same boat and that we all feel like that at times.

These days I just try and cultivate a bit of compassion instead of turning cynical, which makes me feel better. It makes me feel closer to the people I care about and more fulfilled. I try very hard not to form expectations anymore that people should behave in a certain way. On days when I feel vunerable and let down by folk, which happens a lot, I just try to maintain my integrity and switch the feeling to that may be they are having a bad day or struggling? I think I've actually found after years of being very cynical that this is the best way to stop myself from taking my thoughts to a dark place.

But it does exist though

I read your profile and it makes for sobering reading. I didn't realise quite how bad it can be for single women on here and I'm sorry to hear you've had all those bad experiences but it's amazing you can still keep your compassion and make yourself feel a little better.

I think trying to spread a little joy and fun on the forums helps even out some of the mean crap messages people get on here.

Yes, it's tough at times on here for everyone and even though I've had some bad experiences, there are plenty of kind hearted and funny people that keep me smiling.
