"Find playmates before the internet?
I guess there were clubs around in the old days, but any other ways?
"
We had magazines... oh gosh, some of them had telephone numbers (landline numbers!) with grainy b/w images. Mostly though you sent a mail (a letter if you will) to the magazine PO box, who then forwarded the letter to your recipient, who would then reply (to the PO Box) and then that got forwarded to you.... hopefully they would include their telephone number and you went from there..
Meowzebub.... swinging since he was 18 (oh the shame, or glory, who cares!) |

We found some old contact mags when we moved. I used to work for a publication that had contact ads on the back pages. |

And the days before the internet have been described as "the olden days" - I feel old!!! |

I remember placing an ad in a contact magazine with my ex years ago for a couple or a single guy. They replied to PO Box and the mag then forwarded all the mail on to us.
It was so exciting getting a big parcel full of replies and photos. |

Oh god, I’m old!!
Yup, contact mags and PO BOX and Polaroid camera always at the ready! The pics were like self destruct as they faded over time! Shame, I had some great ones!!
Once you met one or two couples you kind of then became in a loop and a good performing respectful guy would be passé round and then there were house parties which were like one big orgy. Oh the days.
Dogging before the days of the net and the camera phone was in full swing and the spots known to a few were like the clubs of the day. Again it was like a secret circle and once you were in you were in. Met so many wonderful couples dogging and they used to be plentiful and the doggers uber respectful.
Been swinging for some near 30 years now!! Oh the shame....: oh the stories and memories. |

Ads in the local paper with mobile number, putting a card up on the contact board at the local adult shop, and there was the contact mags too... But there was Internet, it was slow dialup and we used things like MSN and Yahoo groups and messenger apps. |

I remember dogging took off where I lived in the mid nineties. No camera phones, little to no CCTV in rural car parks and non in lay-bys. No locked gates closing at 7. Not unusual to find ten couples and plenty of guys parked up around 10pm. That was also the very early days of online and ads for meet ups had no pictures and you would message a bit then chat on the phone and turn up at the couples house with only their description of themselves to rely on. Or a couple would post up they were looking for a meet and to meet at so and so lay-by at a certain time and they would be in a blue car and that was all you knew about them.
Before that remember contact mags you would buy from sex shops plus sometimes you found some action in the peep show booths there (more so in US cities) and in adult cinemas. |

I had forgotten about Yahoo groups where you used to have to send a message to the moderator to request to be added. |

My Fiancee back in 1991 introduced me to swinging.
She had been part of the 'scene' then, but it was very much hush-hush & "underground" where she lived in Sussex. Even getting me introduced to others meant a vetting almost worthy of applying for a job at MI5!
After we split up in 1992, I later used Contact Mags, then there was an Introduction Service via a PO BOX No system in The Daily Sport paper.
That's where I got my first lead & in turn meets, then the Internet developed. |

Yup, pretty much sums it up regarding the dogging. The clubs of there day when there were no clubs or internet.
The internet has introduced so many more to swinging which can only be a good thing although I do miss in some ways how it used to work as once you were in the fun and opportunities were endless. |

Making me feel even older. But made myself feel better and a very good morning on browsing your profile.
You have nothing to worry about. Phew, quite hot under the collar now. |

"Rendezvous contact magazine! Would love to know what year it stopped publication. You kids have got it to good. "
Around 2002 I think.
Many a rendezvous from that publication, wasn’t always a few quick pm’s either!!
Kids have it so so easy. |

Even I do and I'm only in my early 30's!
Last week I introduced some guys I work with to Bo Selecta! Before I realised that was before they were born and they didn't even know 99% of the "celebrities".
For me swinging was something my grandparents did when they were at the age I am now. I do remember finding contact mags behind pubs / in bushes growing up and once the local library got internet, I had access to all sorts of chatrooms, ASL became the most used letters on the keyboards! |

I came across a private shop recently on my travels and I asked for contact magazines but they don't do them anymore.
It seems to be all online these days.
Before the internet I can remember a chat line number for singles to call and you would get connected to random people. It was good fun but everyone was too far away from me at the time. |
