Is anyone enjoying watching the women’s football World cup? No matter how much I try i can’t take it seriously, it is rubbish to watch and the goal keepers are appalling , can it ever be a mainstream sport??

Yeah I find it quite entertaining. Ok so it's not the greatest standard of football but it's a hell of a lot better than it was 10/15 years ago and the WSL gets better every year

The standard is improving but it is no better than very low standard non league, I just think with the amount of football on offer there is no room for the women’s game

It's shocking. Nothing against women playing football but the standard is terrible and that makes terrible viewing.

It feels forced too with the BBC and Sky Sports trying to make out like it's just as good as the men's game - well it is far from that. They should just be honest and say it's not as good but with more support it could get better.

I agree, and this will be controversial but the female pundits and commentators are also very poor,

Please don’t think this sexist but as women are generally smaller and as proved in athletics their track times and world records are slower.Perhaps if the matches were played on a smaller pitch and smaller goals it may be a better spectacle for fans.I don’t think it needs a major overhaul just tweaking.

Well I don’t know , but it’s more entertaining than the dross I just watched on Sky . 0-0 after 120 minutes of shockingly bad football , and Raheem Sterling couldn’t have hit a barn door !

The women don’t spend the whole game spitting either which is strange as the men spit every 30 seconds .

So I’m enjoying it , despite the quality of football being of a much lower standard than some of the men’s matches , but nit all of them .

It's not a bad standard of football at all , the women's game is really coming on well .at last proper funding and professional teams . They don't roll around when tackled as much as some of the top male players .

Bristol East

Women's football was huge in the UK from 1914 onwards.

Huge crowds, filled stadia.

Male footballers were off at the war.

When the war was over, the Football Association declared it a men- only sport.

So the women's game fell to pieces.

1970s before it was opened up to women.

The women's game lost 50 years if development.
