Words will seem little help but your in all our thoughts. In time you'll remember her with fondness and it'll bring a huge smile to her face. Remember she's only leaving the physical. She'll always be with you. As above as below xx |

Awwwwww deepest sympathy, it's horrible when it happens but hopefully now she can be comfy again!
My dog is 17 and every morning I look to see if she's still breathing! Lucky for us she's healthy enough for an old dog, just deaf so sleeps through most things!
Xxxxx her x |

Sorry to hear that. If its a human or an animal, it still hurts a lot, and i should know. I read today on mail online about a woman who kept two dogs in her atic and starved them to death, i think people like that must be very wrong inside to be so cruel. You dont treat animals or people like that. |

I'm sorry but at the risk of getting banned- you let your animal suffer for that length of time?
I think its disgraceful- the reason we have vets out of hours numbers is so that animals don'y have to suffer, and we have a responsibility to ensure their dignity in life and in death. |

I work in a vets .. and find often people leave PTS too late in the hope that the pet will die before they make the decision to take to vet. In fact when you know the quality of life is no longer there the kindest thing is to take in and put down..or call us out and have it done at home. Cant imagine there is any surgery anywhere that cant put people in touch with an out of hours vets.
Pts is always sad but at least you know you have done the best for the pet not leaving it to suffer ..that is so cruel. |

i just wonder if you would be happy to have someone pull the plug on you when the time came or would you take the pain for a few extra hours or days with the people you love.
i know if i was lucid and coherent i'd take any pain for those extra moments.
doesn't a loved pet deserve the same ??
or do you see it as something you make it's choices for ? |

There is a massive difference then, You said your polecat was dying... I had to face this with an elderly cat a short while ago, and whilst I had the hardest time agonising over wanting every last minute with them, it was the right thing to do for the animal. The quality of life had gone... animals don't see pain as transitory. I stand by my comment, whilst I Do sympathise with your loss.
When they put my cat down, it was a massive dose of anaesthetic, she went to sleep in my arms. |

Cats and dogs and other domestic animals are so lucky because as humans and there keepers we have the skills and cognitive ability to euthanise our pets when they are suffering.
It is just such a shame when fellow humans are suffering we have to put them on a plane to Switzerland to ease there pain and suffering. Animals should never suffer unecessarily as we have the power to remove there pain.
I am sorry you pet died but did he need to suffer for the last 24hrs when you had the option to relive the suffering. |
