I suspect I may be in the minority. I generally prefer it when people do not wear makeup.
What’s your preference?
And if you’re a makeup wearer, do you like it, does it make you feel more beautiful / comfortable, would you rather not wear makeup? |

"I hear this all the time from men. Then some over the top woman walks past them, made up like cosmetic counter staff, and their tongue hangs out "
There may be more going on there than just make up.
Also, I was careful to say, generally. |

I wear it for me but I'm happy enough with my face without it to go bare faced. I always take my makeup off on a meet at sleep time. I tend to go natural makeup anyway. But I love mascara.
I hate the false eyelash, injected lip, disco highlighter look that a lot of early 20s wear. |

Agreed. Excessive cosmetics is rather off-putting. Just like the spray-tan bronze look. Don’t get it. |

I don't go out the door without lippy on.
But only because it makes me feel better.
If its OH I don't mind so much but if I go on a social or we meet I want to make an effort. Of course, with any luck its all off before long....

I like wearing make up, if I didn't I just wouldn't wear it. .
I won't even go out in the garden without lipstick on.
I don't feel under pressure to wear it and I absolutely do look better with it on. I'm not tricking anyone either, if I meet from fab I will have make up on and am unlikely to remove it during the meet, so what you see is absolutely is what you're getting |

Wearing make up does give me more confidence. Sorry if your thread was not intended for the likes of me. Thought i would try to put a different perspective on it. |

As it should be. There’s no right or wrong about wearing makeup, so long as it’s the person’s happy choice to wear it or not.
Also worth saying that I don’t dislike makeup (unless it’s truly excessive), it’s just that I softly prefer no or little makeup. |

I don't wear makeup on a day to day basis but do like to for a night out or a special occasion.
Two reasons...
I am very short sighted, so need to be wearing contact lenses to see to put makeup on properly. Happy in my glasses generally.
It's nice to make an effort when I go out and I like the transformation of makeup. Though I think I look fine without it. |

I enjoy makeup and wear it for myself, when I want to. I'm bare faced for chores, gym, etc and apply the bits I want to when I want to.
I'm told I wear subtle minimal makeup, but it's truer to say that I know how the rules apply to my own face, and unless you look closely and you know what you're looking for, it flies under the radar. My preferred style isn't the preferred style of most women around me.
Most guys (not picking on you OP) do prefer some makeup, but they don't realise what they're looking at. |

I find doing my make-up very therapeutic. I adore make-up.
I have pretty serious body image issue and I spent years feeling like I needed to wear make-up all the time, I couldn't leave the house without it on.
Recently I've been wearing pretty much no make-up to work: just lipstick and mascara. And I feel really good about it.
I think make-up is an art. And women do look beautiful with it and use it the express themselves, but its important not to feel its a necessity. |

I have probably worn make up once in every 4 years of my life! Never felt the need and literally most of the guys I have ever known in my life (which is loads as I work in an all male environment and all my hobbies have been very male orientated) when this subject arises say they much prefer no make up!! Always has shocked me really though I've also never understood the need for it! |

Well said, and insightful about men not knowing. Yeah, like I mentioned, I’m probably in the minority. Here.
The key thing, like you said, is that you do it for yourself. That’s the important bit, with or without, that you do what you want without having to pay a penalty of judgement for it. |

I love it be because it helps complete a look. In the same way changing my hair or wearing a different style of clothing changes things. Looking at my make up bag, I probably wear a lot compared to some but like to think that I apply it well and that I look polished rather than Lilly Savage on crack. Hate the trowled in, Sharpie style eyebrows look though.

I wear a little makeup most days, keep it natural, tinted moisturiser, mascara, lip gloss, just enough so that I don’t frighten small children.
Nights out I wear a bit more but not too much, don’t like the caked on look
Am fascinated by the current eyebrow thing among younger women. Why do they think black eyebrows with corners look attractive? |

Fuller eyebrows are more youthful, and it frames your face.
Although I'm not one for the dramatic boy brow. I just fill in the patchy bits on mine. |

A bit fuller and less gappy I get, it’s the unnaturally dark and square thing I don’t get. Usually on stunningly pretty girls who don’t need to.
Knowing me, I’d forget about them and leave eyebrow prints on the pillowcase |

I don't wear makeup daily - partly from sheer laziness, partly because I don't feel I need to and partly because I don't know how to. I wear mascara if I have an important meeting or a meet but normally lip balm. I don't mind women wearing makeup - lots of it or a little amount. The no makeup makeup look can take a looot of products. |

Without wishing to sound corny, natural beauty shines through
There is physical beauty in most, but what some girls (and guys for that matter) can do with make up, WOW!
My team leader at work sent me a Whatsapp - she was 'dolled up' (as we say round here) in the profile pic.
I genuinely did not recognise her. I thought I was getting hit on by some hotty.
She's a pretty girl sans slap, but with it on, stunning!
Aside from that, make up is a great one for giving someone confidence. If they feel better in themselves, it is bound to reflect in their outlook.
So, whilst I can appreciate and embrace natural beauty, if make up has a positive effect and provides confidence & empowerment, bring it on! |

Yep I think we all see beauty in our close ones whatever they look like. Mr N likes taking photos of me when I've just woken up.
However in day to day life would most people find entirely ungroomed people naturally beautiful? |

Again, I would - as long as it looked like they'd washed
I am turning into my mother, I catch myself saying things like ' oooh, she looks like she could do with a good wash'
I work, in an office of about 40, about 80% of which are female
I get to see all sorts
I even recognise when it's 'wing week' for some, when they come in and their skin tone matches the walls, that's a pretty good sign |

Best thing I’ve seen about makeup is a set of three illustrations, showing the same girl with a load of makeup on, some natural makeup on and no make up on.
I posted it ages ago and got a ban, but Google ‘Are you sick makeup”, click on images and should be the first one. |

I was just thinking about this and yes clean is my minimum requirement but I do like hair to be brushed and nails shaped. I don't like entirely natural.

Unless I'm being a bit daft (costume party or similar) my makeup is to play up my features. My eyes are between two colours and depending on the colours I put on my face, I can make them look dramatically one way or another. |

I will happily go out or to work without any makeup on, doesn't phase me what so ever.
But I enjoy doing makeup, for the artistic value. So I am always either full glam or nothing |

"What do people mean by natural beauty?
Some of it is physical, some of it is the soul shining through
I understand that . I was more thinking of how far down the natural route people are prepared to accept.
For me, all the way to the morning breath and the birds nest hair
Yep I think we all see beauty in our close ones whatever they look like. Mr N likes taking photos of me when I've just woken up.
However in day to day life would most people find entirely ungroomed people naturally beautiful?
Again, I would - as long as it looked like they'd washed
I am turning into my mother, I catch myself saying things like ' oooh, she looks like she could do with a good wash'
I work, in an office of about 40, about 80% of which are female
I get to see all sorts
I even recognise when it's 'wing week' for some, when they come in and their skin tone matches the walls, that's a pretty good sign
I was just thinking about this and yes clean is my minimum requirement but I do like hair to be brushed and nails shaped. I don't like entirely natural.
lordy what colour are the walls in your workplace "
Depending on lighting, it varies somewhere between off white, insipid green and pallid grey
See what I mean? Perfect |

"I suspect I may be in the minority. I generally prefer it when people do not wear makeup.
What’s your preference?
And if you’re a makeup wearer, do you like it, does it make you feel more beautiful / comfortable, would you rather not wear makeup?"
I prefer lots |
