"I used to
Long hours , bad for relationships , tiring for not a lot of wage
"
But the long hours are for you, you are working hard doing it for you no? What should one look out for from the large pub company? |

I used to, wouldn’t do it again. Long hours and lots of work. Depending on what type of pub and where can be lots of hassle off customers. More money in the food side of the business now. X |

Where I am from there aren’t many proper boozers left. Mostly pubs which are now primarily doing food, themed bars as in a gin bar. Only really have Wetherspoons as an option for a “cold one” and that does food.
I guess there’s a reason. More profit in food and can’t compete with supermarkets selling three slabs for £21 |

I've never fancied it. Know a few landlords and spent a fair share of my life in pubs observing. From what I see your pretty stuck in work 24/7. Almost a prisoner in your own home. There is no escape from it at the end of the working day. Then you have all the pressures of running your own business but also having to answer to the brewery. Then if you want to get staff in so you can get a break you have to pick carefully because anyone you recruit from the village is also related to most of the punters and it's free pints for all once you back is turned. So you have to say in and keep and eye on the beer and till anyway. Nope it's not for me. |
