Loss of communication/dating skills

Since the birth of the internet and dating/swinging sites do you feel we’ve lost the art of face to face communication and dating skills?

You used to meet someone whilst out and about or a friend of a friend and you had to be able to talk to them. Now so much of the early chats are done via typing and you could be holding multiple conversations. At least one on one face to face you have that persons attention for that period of time.

If you won’t say it to someone’s face then don’t type it. You wouldn’t walk up to someone in a bar and say “fancy a fuck” or maybe you would but you wouldn’t get one from me!!

Maybe it’s what my nan called “having to woo someone”

No, I don't feel we've lost the art of face to face communication, once you meet someone in person that skill needs to be there or the relationship is over before it gets going. Even if you're having multiple internet chats, while you're typing and reading to an individual that is one to one communication and you do have that person's attention for that period of time, just like socialising with many people at a party.

I agree that if you wouldn't say something to someone's face you shouldn't say it in writing either.

I think we should look for the similarities in how we communicate and just see the net as a different way of doing it just like the phone and letter writing .

Yes many people have lost face to face skills full stop. Im quite old skool i dont really do much social media or the like, its refreshing to meet someone thats got traditional communication/flirting ways. The eyes talk a thousand words, body language speaks volumes... unfortunately many of these values are lost to a square screen.

I can see why it would seem that way OP, so much of our lives are spent on the Internet or social media communicating with each other in virtual.

As far as I'm concerned I still put as much effort into my online chat as I would face to face and I wouldn't be any different online than I would be in person.

The biggest problem I see with online dating sites or swinging sites etc is that people don't have to be themselves if they don't to be which makes many people rude, others project the version of themselves they would like to be and others are just plain ignorant. Not everyone is like this though, if you want a proper conversation online you can still find it, you just gotta keep trying till you find it.

Hull

Without internet dating sites and fab in particular, I wouldn’t have had a sex life for the last 15 years or so. I’ve never ‘conected’ (shall we say) with anyone local to me. Even when I had boyfriends they were never from Hull and all my fab meets have been from out side of Hull. Not a deliberate thing just I have never met or seen a profile for anyone from Hull that interested me. So the internet has helped me a lot. I still have to get on with the people I do meet though and communicate directly

Not so much loss of communication skills perhaps, just less of effective communication?

There is a world of difference between txt and internet communication, which is often flat and lacks the subtle nuances of face to face communication, and all the non verbal signals we all rely on in the real world; none of which can be replicated by any online media.

It's funny isn't it that on a thread concerned that face to face communication skills are being lost the majority agree via remote communication . There's a certain irony
