If you were to phone your local GP today that you are registered with, when would be the next available appointment for you (based on experience?)
I’ve heard waiting times are really bad, but I hand on heart have never had this issue. I know some people can phone up and be told the next appointment is in three weeks or so |

"About a fortnight for me usually
But my other half is still registered at the village one a couple of miles away, and he can get an appointment the same day usually. "
Yeah I’m away to phone and ask for one today. If not I know I’ll get one before Wednesday.
Makes me sad that so many people have to wait |

Depends upon what you’re wanting to see them for sometimes a advanced practitioner can deal with same day cases. |

Our docs will only pre book half a days worth so if you ring up at 8 am they have the rest of the appointments available to release. Usually always get seen the same day by a doctor. Quite a good system. |

Even if I'm actually at my Practitioners they will not book an appointment for a couple of days, or even next week, you always have to ring at 8 o'clock. It makes my blood boil sometimes, as I have varied sleep patterns due to my medication. |

If I book an appointment that's not too urgent then two to three weeks is average waiting time. I have found my GP is pretty good at getting you in on the day if you ring up as soon as they open. |

Same here pretty much
Although I just phoned and the doctor I usually see is on annual leave, so I don’t have an appointment until Wednesday but if one opens up beforehand they’ll let me know |

We have the triage system, so a doctor will ring and if they feel you need to be seen, then same day. If not, couple of days, but not necessarily your own doctor, but that doesn't matter to me. |

Usually a day..
But don't worry given the US Ambassadors comments that in any trade deal with them they would expect the NHS to be part of that an appointment if you can afford it will be the least of one's concerns about available health care.. |

See this is what pisses me off, why can you not book an appointment for the next day when you actually in the place, rather than having to ring back at 8 in the bloody morning and not even being able to speak to a receptionist for at least three quarters of a bloody hour for crying out loud |

If I call at 8am can usually get an appointment with my Dr that day.
They are pretty good with me, having a heart condition means I get seen when I need too, regardless of ringing at 8. |

I don'even bother trying to ring before at least half past now, cos I'm fed up of hearing the same shitty music which is interrupted by the same shitty voice giving you the same shitty information which I've heard a thousand times before
I think I need a pill and a lie down, cane someone ring their GP and get me one please |

Theres a fastest finger first system at 8.30am most mornings, if ring through and you're lucky you might get a same day appointment with which ever doctor is free ( some are better than others)
I can book on line but that's generally for the following week or more likely the week after that and sometimes only with the nurse who in my experience has been not the best.
Not ideal. |

My named GP is never available, it's impossible to get an appointment with her. I've been given various reasons for this but mainly 'all her pre-bookable appointments are full'.
A GP that, from experience of them I would only see for a very minor ailment, about a week. Any other unknown GP a fortnight to three weeks.
If it's an emergency sometimes the same day but sometimes not.
It isn't their fault |

From what I can see of it, I'm pretty sure that my surgery do not fill all the slots every day but deliberately keep quite a few open for emergencies and then if someone who's record has been tagged to say that they should be given a higher priority then there should be a time with in a half day when they can be seen.
So, if you're given a long lead time it's because you're considered to be fit and well enough and sensible enough to be able to treat yourself. |

Usually get an appointment the same day during Spring and Summer, in Autumn and Winter it’s usually the next day but never more than 3 days. I feel pretty lucky considering the waiting times that some of you endure |

To pre book an appointment at my surgery approx 4weeks!
Or you phone up at 8am to get an on the day appt.
Last time I had to do that took 52 calls to get through, by which point all appts gone.
After 3 days I gave up trying & went to A&E |

We have to ring at 8:30am for an appointment the next working day.
Trying to get through is always a nightmare and often the appointments have gone. So have to try the next day etc.
They do have an emergency appt system but never used it so dunno what it is. |

Always same day for us which is great. Our previous surgery was terrible, best you could get was a phone consultation and then the Doctor prescribing something for you without even seeing you! Many times I ended up at the walk in centre because they wouldn’t give me an appointment, last time it happened I ended up on oxygen and nebulisers because my breathing was so bad. Turned out that I had pneumonia!
The final straw to make us leave was when hubby got bitten by a dog at work and needed a tetanus shot. We rang to book and were told that they had taken him off their patients list because he hadn’t seen a doctor for 2 years. Said he would have to re register and could be seen for a registration appointment with the nurse in 3 weeks. |

My GP's Surgery has a system in that you can ring in after 0830 and leave your number, a GP will call back & assess over the phone.
If an appointment is considered necessary, you get it that morning!
Same goes for the afternoon. Ring in after 1230pm, and you can get an appt for later on.
The GP's might also get you in to see a Nurse instead, or diagnose over the phone and prescribe meds instead, emailing a prescription to a local pharmacy during their call-back.
The quickest I've had a call back was within 10 mins of leaving my number, and was sitting in front of my usual GP barely 20 mins after that! |

This is the problem. We're told not to go to a and e but if you've exhausted all other avenues. Previously I've called 111 and seen an out of hours gp at the hospital, I've deliberately done it having tried to get an appointment for my daughter all day. |

Probably around the same near me unless you wanted to see the trainee who would then have to run everything past the go anyway so you'd wait the same amount of time for any result or follow up. There useless near me . ( don't get me wrong it's probably mainly due to being understaffed and overworked) |

It's rediculous, I do all I can to avoid heading to the hospital but when you spend the day being passed around you feel you're left with little option. The frustrating thing is I know exactly what's wrong and how it's fixed(he's had the same before) so if I could just get antibiotics I wouldn't even take up 2 mins of their time. Xx |

Ours has a few appointments reserved daily so if you call at 8am you will usually get one same day.
Routine appointments can only be booked on wednesdays between 12 and 4pm and depending on what doctor you want can be in anything from 3 to 5 weeks.
Reception are crap though and often dont put through repeat prescriptions properly |

"The time I hate is when you can't class it as an absolute emergency .. but you're a little concerned about something ... waiting 2 weeks can make a person anxious"
That’s the choice I had to make today. Was it an emergency? I’m having bad side affects to the tranquillisers I’m taking, but I can’t stop taking them until I speak to a doctor. So I had to make that call |

I'm facing a concern that I couldn't say is a must see right now ..
And then there's the phoning and speaking to the sanctimonious receptionists with no medical training that insist knowing the problem so they can triage you ... no .. I want to talk to a medically trained doctor about it!! |

A week to 10 days here although they do have "urgent" same day appointments but you have to be on the phone when they open the lines. Sadly not uncommon to waste 45 mins in a queue only to get to number 1, before being cut off - presumably the quota having been filled. |

I'd get to see a GP or Nurse Practitioner tomorrow - we generally have enough same day appointments to go around here. If I wanted to book a specific GP, I'm guessing it would be a 2 or 3 week wait. |

I did see a GP, after phoning at lunch time, during mid afternoon that day, a few weeks ago: I thought that was great but it was also some good fortune that I got it - as well as suffering from something that was very urgent, that I'd self-diagnosed. |

Because of working, I normally need after 1730 (just to be sure in case of overtime etc) so next day, maybe a 2 day wait.
Has been known to be same day as one of the Quacks isnt really liked, I couldn't care less so gets me in quicker!

I don’t bother calling the gp surgery direct - cut out the middle man - direct to 111
If it’s urgent - you get seen somewhere quickly within the nhs trust, if it’s not urgent they schedule an appointment to see a doctor ...
Much more efficient and hassle free

But that’s bonkers and doesn’t help with relieving pressure on A&E departments and unnecessary calls to 999 - which is in part what 111 was set up to deal with .

All over the place! Northwesr, , Southwest |
I've worked in various places throughout the UK and it varies greatly. I read that 150+ GP practices closed last year alone and that professionals are retiring early or dripping out of the, profession in droves Depending on the area, it will certainly create a bottleneck with availability and capacity to respond to local demand. |
