Yes we should treat him with respect and hospitality as the democratically elected representative of the USA.
Yes people have a right to peacefully and respectfully protest if they so choose to. |

I think we should treat the office of President with respect. We will have a relationship with the USA long after the current president's term of office is finished.
As said above everyone had a right to demonstrate peacefully and without intimidating anyone |

While we do have numerous connections- culturally, ethically, family - we should never forget they are a trading enemy. Be respectful but let’s not fawn over them.
We are kidding if we think it’s a special relationship. Where’s Hugh Grant when we need him? |

Yes as the leader and representative of another country, the state visit bit is right and proper.
But the best form of protest against the particular individual concerned is to not turn up, just go about your business as if he wasn't here. Even better would be if there was also no media.

"The position of POTUS needs to be respected, it does not mean we have to respect the person in that role.
However, I was taught “if you can’t say something nice, don’t bother” so I’ll say no more "
Sound advice and a good rule to live by. Does that apply to Gooners though? |

Shame the electoral college system is a joke. He was not voted for by the majority of Americans. He has zero respect for democracy or the institutions it protects.
The guy is an arse, I think prince Philip should hold him down whilst the queen kicks the crap out of him |

Agree respect but not toadying.
Hugh is probably on a street corner somewhere |

The media couldn't stay away, they'd have nothing to write about / make up |

With all due respect, as a Colonial Cousin, I disagree with above sentiments.
Trump IS the leader of a major super power, but uses that power horrendously. Despite not being elected by the majority of voters (in an outdated and completely useless electoral college vote), he has managed, in just a few years, to give power to those in the country who completely disrespect what my country was founded on: equal rights for minorities.
Crimes against those who are racially, religiously, and sexually not "the norm" have risen dramatically. It seems that the once closeted bigots are now free to be the assholes they are--and get away with it.
My family all fall into the above categories. I do not tolerate bigotry.
Trump embodies the worst of the worst in any country. He not only openly condemns those he sees as "not fit" to live in the US, he and his party actively encourage others to discriminate.
We do not live in a country that encourages fascism. Protest is not only allowed, it is accepted. As it should be. Just because the US has always been open to immigration and just laws, doesn't mean it can't change with a moments notice.
Protest, protest, protest.
The man is NOT the country, and it's possible to respect that the US is a great country (which I truly believe it is) while proclaiming that its leader is an ass of epic proportion. |

Such a calm measured response
Or stand him at the top of a ramp with no one's hand to hold to get him down it |

The man as a person may be abhorrent to some, well, most.
But shouldn't the position of POTUS bd7 respected?
Protest by all means, but respectfully? |
