in most newspapers & web news.

mother says he told her that he was a girl trapped in a boys body when he was 3 years old.

do you think at that age he would know this??

or is it just possible (only a question) that the parent(s) convinced him of this as they really wanted a girl??

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum

People of one gender being born as another is nothing new. Just that this one got their therapy earlier than most.

None of my business, and anyone who thinks they know one second of what this family has experienced and villifies them for it is a judgemental, closed minded jerkass.

Was'nt there a thing a few weeks ago about parents bringing their child up non gender. These parents are going by the wishes of their child I know its young but it is up to the individuals. What I don't agree with is the advertising and selling of stories these children still have to grow up and would not want them to be bullied for their parents outing them. Children can be so cruel when others are differen to themselves.

It looks like wishful thinking by the mother and conditioning of the child. Its not pleasant to see things like this going on.

Maybe you should read the full article before passing judgement. The child has had a thorough examination by specialists who have identified her has having Gender Identity Disorder. Her school has removed all gender specific marking from the toilets and made them unisex to cater for her and her playmates at school, both male and female, have accepted her as female.

I have heard differing reports on this poor child. Unfortunately the press has sensationalised the story to sell papers and does little to help the child.

Its a possibility but I doubt it more like someone has sold the story. Any parent who cares wouldn't want national exposure that could lead to bullying and teasing later in life.

Not read the story so i dont know if the boy choose to be a girl or if his mum dressed him as such but as for the knowing he was a boy in a girls boy ar 5, yes i think as young as 5 that children know theres something different about them, and by different i mean goes against what society says is normal, my daughter is a lesbian and i could have told you she was going to be so from a very young age, i know that sounds stupid but there was always something about the way, even as a young child, that she acted round women that just seemed wierd, at the time you just kinda shake your head and think your being daft and think nothing of it till something else happens then again you think..oh shes just a kid she dont understand, but things like your sexuality isnt something you choose as an adult its with you for life and now shes an adult and open and able to express herself properly looking back at some of the things i thought i was being dafty about when she was a child i know realise i wasnt i just, like most thought how can a child that young know But as for people who genually are feeling they are the wrong sex then yes i would have thought even as young as 5 they would know somthing was wrong

One report I read said that tests showed the child had a female brain (no idea how you tell the difference). As long as the child is happy then all is fine.

Just because the story appeared in The Sun (which goes to prove that there are a few Sun readers on here or this thread wouldn't exist) it doesn't make the story any less valid, or all the more sleazy because it wasn't in The Times (or was it?).

I thought the mother came across as very caring and mindful of her child's happiness. She put it down to the boy 'going through one of those things' when he first mentioned he was in the wrong body at the age of three (he actually said, "mummy...I'm a girl.") She thought he'd grow out of it but a year later he was still getting very upset when people described him as a boy. It was at that point she allowed him to live as a girl and took him to specialists to see if there was a real underlying problem. She did everything she could to handle 'his' situation with care and love, even enrolling the school to help other schoolchildren adjust when the little boy was finally diagnosed with GID.

How the story broke hasn't been divulged but it is still a valid story, with what I think is a positive outcome - the little GIRL is now a happy little GIRL.

I've read this story on a couple of web news sites, and I have to say, it looks better as a little girl than it does as a little boy.

I agree with a couple of the posts above - it's nobody's business but the parents. The child is theirs, and apart from sexual or physical abuse, they can do with it whatever they like, whether it be choosing it's sex, religion, friends, education or even piercing it's ears.

Power to the parents!

It's great that things like this are understood and addressed positively these days. In the past the kid might have suffered for his/her whole life without anyone accepting them.

I always had a boys haircut, hung around with lads, climbed trees and made rafts to go on the lake. I turned into my teens and suddenly became very feminine which I still am to this day. It's far far to early to tell.

they can do what ever they like?? a child is not an interactive toy that you can programme

sex - no one can choose, its a genetic code, yo can choose your gender and eve then the parents can choose that for them, they can try to influence it but if the child has strong feelings one way or another it will come out in the end

Religion - can be forced upo children i guess however once they grow up they will ake their own decisions on what faith they choose.

Friends - you can voice dislike against the friends they choose but if they are srong willed enough they will do what they like anyway

the beauty of children is that if you love and nurture them they will turn out to be bright and exciting individuals

Read it in the 'Metro', thought it was nonsense before hand..till i read the kid tried to cut his own penis off...my cynicism and sceptisim kinda faded slightly after that...can't really guess at what part the parents had to play...exposing the kid to the media may not of been wise.

Has the child been tested to see if they are a hermaphrodite, although its very uncommon its not as uncommon as some may think. If a child is born being a hermaphrodite they test to see which gender is the most prominant, so although this child may well have male gentilia they could be prodomantly female. Its very fascinating that a child of three can put themselves over so clearly. Bit different from someone saying they with they where a boy or a girl

I was in two minds when i read this as i have known i was bisexual since i was 7 years old (there were reasons for this that i can go into on here)

In my 20s i really struggled with my sexuality and was refered to a psychiatrist about it

He agreed that it was very possible to know your sexuality at that age but unusual

But i personally cant even remember being three years old so couldnt comment on my own feelings at that age

i personally have mixed feelings on this story and am at least glad that they have seriously sought medical advise

However i personally would have been happier if it had been through the NHS and not as it seems a private clinic

I never forced anything on my son, i guided him, but his decisions where his own, i didnt have him christiened, he had mainly non gender toys, he did have a kitchen and a doll cause he wanted one. I never commented on his friends and he had his ear pierced because he wanted to. Children are not toys to do with as you wish lol

There are lots of tests as women and mens brains are actually quite different... its very complicated but also very interesting.. Most people have a little of both aspects in the way they respond to the tests.
