I like to walk and it is my nr1 choice for cardio. I use the samsung health app to track the steps. I aim for 10000 steps aday, yesterday it was one of my record days. I walked for 200min and 19000 step |

I use Garmin, counts lower than fit bit and Samsung, I vary between 8 and 25 k
And its NOT cardio , it is however excellent for fat loss
Cardio is exactly that any exercises that train the heart , often above 150 bpm |

There and to the left a bit |
I've only just got a smart watch that has a step counter as part of it's functionality and have found it's motivating me to walk more and generally be more active, and has actually shocked me how inactive I am some days - yesterday was a good one for me too though over 16000 steps |

Not a clue
My watch gets confused!
I have a Samsung Gear, records everything else brilliantly, but steps are way out.
I do a 5km uphill walk 3times a week on the treadmill, it never records the full steps,
One day last week, I'd spent 9hrs driving, then the rest of the day in a small bungalow, but I'd done several 1000 steps more than an average day? |

Stop doing the gear stick thing with your steppy hand. |

We both started off with targets at 10,000 and did this easily, so I've upped my daily target to 15,000 and always do much more. Record so far was 31,000 after a 12.5 mile walk.
It's a great way to keep fit, we love our Fitbits! |

It's on my right, not left wrist
And I'm positive I didn't give the wanker sign to any other drivers that day - the kids were in the car |

I walk a minimum of 5k a day+ whatever I do at work etc. I cant have my phone on me while I'm at work so dont get an accurate count.
I've got to get a fit bit or similar for that. |

I’ve just switched on the app on my phone today. Paul has his on and always mentions his steps! So far I’ve done 29 steps! (Currently laying in bath!) lol |

Wow you guys are impressive.
I can only average around 10-15k if I'm back in the UK/Ireland.
Otherwise it's a meagre 3-5k when I'm back home in Asia. It's too hot and humid here, I just have to drive. |

Between 5000 and 7000 each day. I ride my bike much more than I walk, which is why my step count is so low. I was doing between 12000 and 18000 but injured my foot through over use, so now it's biking for me. |

Averages as 16 thousand, thats about 6 miles.
The impact on your day it has will differ greatly from person to person.
For example I do most of my steps in one go, in an evening walk. 2 hours 6-7 miles. During this walk I don't stop once, and pace myself just under brisk so my heart rate goes up, and in the second hour I will sweat a little.
I have lost about 1 stone in a month doing this.
However, if I were to do 16,000 steps paced out over a 6 hour working day, then I might not lose any weight at all. I know a nurse who does 20,000 a day and does not lose any weight at all in work. |

I've got the Samsung watch as well. It doesn't track cycling, spinning etc as steps that's just walking. I do use the exercise icon for these but on mine steps are steps weird. I'm a lazy ass for walking only achieve about 7000 on a good day. |

"About 31000 I wear my Fitbit on my wrist and that does seem to make a difference. I swap wrists when my arm gets tired.
Don't you get tennis elbow? "
That would make too much of a racket |

We all know the wrist band counter counts a step whenever you scratch your bits, and I learned from this thread that the phone counts steps when you are in the bath.
Has anyone run both and viewed the discrepancy? |

My mate has a fitbit and I watch the counter go up as she lifts her coffee mug.
I tried MapMyWalk and that seemed more realistic, tracking my actual location. Got to remember to turn it off when I'm driving. |
