Smugness

So while my so called friend tells me about his lovely holiday while I'm sat in cold rainy Scotland I'd like to say bugger off to him and ask you how smug you are.

Do you enjoy telling others about what you have or what you're doing? Does it make you smile seeing their jealousy?

.

I enjoy telling other people what I'm up to - I like hearing what they are and having a reciprocated dialogue/exchange. I always get excited when my friends tell me happy stuff (well most of the time) and assume others will respond in similar ways wrongly.

Fuck no to the jealousy shit. Fuck that right off. No, I don't like making people jealous.

I occasionally do it in jest, but only where people are likely to know I'm kidding.

If there’s ever that intent, it’s shortlived as it makes me feel crap about myself, it’s cunty, and as I’d quickly realise there’s something else going on for me to feel the need to engage in that kinda behaviour.

Being excitable and yaaaaaaay about things in a way that others see with no intention of smuggeryness though, may still be misconstrued by others as such. People will read things that are there or aren’t there all the time.

With the best people there’s always the wherewithal to talk it out if needed. I don’t believe the good stuff in life is finite and thus someone else’s good stuff doesn’t deplete mine nor my good stuff theirs.

(Corrected for typos!)

With friends in a fun way but not with work colleagues.

It never ends if you start that one-upmanship crap.

Nah. There's no good feeling for me in trying to deliberately make someone else feel shite. I'm rubbish at faux grandstanding too anyway

I don’t really have or do anything to make anyone jealous, not that I’m aware of anyway.

Personally I'm quite an exciteable person and when good things happen I do want to share it but I choose my audience, I know my friends and family will be happy for me and share in my excitement in the same way I do with them.

I'm not one for material possessions so I'm not flashy or anything like that and I'm not one to draw attention. I think I'm also quite a tactful person and wouldn't rub anyone's face in my good fortune, I know how it feels to be the one who has nothing to make them smile at that time and I wouldn't want to make anyone feel worse.

I've never been like that. The only time I feel smug is when I say something funny and people laugh, goes right to my head.

I still don't show it.

Absolutely not OP, I would never condone smugness, unless you've got one back over someone who has crossed you in the past

Please don't! I was joking!

Friends can tease each other without it being smugness! It just made me think of people who do it in a serious way

Under the Duvet

An interesting one.

Some people are genuinely happy about their good fortune, others can come across as boastful.

You can't actually "make"someone jealous though...people can choose to feel jealous or envious.

We own our own feelings, although that can be uncomfortable to acknowledge sometimes.

That's an interesting way to look at it although I don't think feeling jealous is a choice, feelings happen although we are in control of our responses to those.

I think he might have been a decent winger in his day too.

His alter ego is Alice Swinger as well

No not at all. When I was younger and I had nothing people would brag to me about things and it hurt me.. I came from nothing and I know its not a nice thing do to anyone.

I feel sorry for some people and I would never do that.

I havent got much now, but atleast I have the decency not to brag to people.
