Ya know folks.... A forum is a place for discussion.
Not somewhere to get nasty n ranty with each other.
You are all entitled to your own opinions and to stand your corners on those, but why come out fists up to do it instead of just defending your points intelligently like an adult?
Please don't misconstrue this as an insult to you all, many use the forums in the way they were intended, but so many go overboard and then get cheered on by others with stupid comments about grabbing popcorn etc.
I have not been completely innocent myself in the past, however having stood back a little from general forum chat, I have returned to see it more than ever.
Live n let live - love let love.
We all have opinions and we all have our own perception of what's right. We don't all have to agree on everything, so let's be adult about things.
This also pertains to real life and dealing with people face to face. MOST do it with more decorum than they do here - so why so brave behind a keyboard?

I am between the UK and US for next couple of months and have killed some time in airports n stuff mooching forums but not felt inclined to post on much as don't fancy earache back from it  |

They’re only as good as those that participate Hanky. Recently you could say that they’re in a wee bit of a rut. They do frequently go off in a tangent... which is disappointing but I don’t know how you address that. |

I think people first started moaning about the demise of the forums at least 10 years ago... Some people think other people are dicks and other people think the same people are the saviour of the forum. It's the nature of the beast |

I have to say I've logged in this week and seen certain threads by certain people and just thought but I know others must enjoy their musings. I just can't stand the threads designed to be provocative and then the inevitable arguing that follows. So if you asked me this week I'd probably agree with you although I think the forums always goes through peaks and troughs |

Hear hear Hanky - couldn't agree with the sentiment more, sadly as with any internet forum where anonymity is afforded the haters are gonna hate hate hate, and there will always be those that seek to provoke and be controversial for the sake of doing so - not sure it's any worse or better now than it has always been, but have got to a point that unless something needs challenging to correct falsehood or address bigotry etc that I'll borrow one of _ea monkey's Gallic shrugs and move on to the next thread.
I enjoy debate and offering opinion as much as the next person and always prefer threqds like that, accepting that sometimes they can be contentious, but will *always* provide balance and reasoning to any opinion I offer. |

I get all of my shrugs from a small town just outside of La Rochelle. They're a bit more expensive but the quality is great and if you buy in bulk, then they do a great discount. |

I agree with the peaks and troughs, I've seen it happen a few times. It tends to depend on the dominant characters at the time and their attitude, there are times where it can feel quite inclusive but then the negative or elitist people slowly sneak in and and people stop posting because well, what's the point.
Thankfully the trolls get bored eventually when they stop having people to spar with and normal(ish) service can resume. |

I think it's improved in the last few weeks as more people are posting threads who don't usually. It was a nice atmosphere.
There's always popcorn comments or those who derail threads, either with love-ins or being nasty to newbies. |

Now see, like yourself, I have (and still do) witnessed this behaviour on the Forums for many a year
I used to sit and chew the cud and argue a point to the nth degree
Then I had an epiphany
The mood hoovers were hoovering my mood as well as that of others
So I backed off
I come here, get comfy, see something I can either have fun with or can maybe profer an educated opinion or potential solution on and tottle off, coming back later to see if and how the thread has progressed
Sometimes, I make comments (like the one above) that sit somwehere between daft and twattish, but they are always made without intent
Most of the time though, I come here because you lot tickle me - in all your wonderous glory and diversity, the balance still tips in favour of there being more good people here than bad - and whilst that balance remains, I'll keep coming back
Thing is that whilst the faces change and the demographic alters, the personalities behind the profiles still remain pretty constant
We say things here that are meaningless - they may appear judgey but are often said tongue in cheek

I am really just not that bothered how others dress. If they are comfy and feel good then all is good

That's all I can do - it is up to the OP to balance the opinions and make the final call
I think that we need to recognise that behind every profile, there is a person and, if that person needs help, do your best to try and provide that help - don't mock and barrack them further
All that said, some of us come out with so much tripe that, from time to time, all my diplomacy is kicked to one side and I can't help but blurting out 'get a grip'

The mood hoovers were hoovering my mood as well as that of others
So I backed off
I come here, get comfy, see something I can either have fun with or can maybe profer an educated opinion or potential solution on and tottle off, coming back later to see if and how the thread has progressed
Sometimes, I make comments (like the one above) that sit somwehere between daft and twattish, but they are always made without intent
Most of the time though, I come here because you lot tickle me - in all your wonderous glory and diversity, the balance still tips in favour of there being more good people here than bad - and whilst that balance remains, I'll keep coming back
Thing is that whilst the faces change and the demographic alters, the personalities behind the profiles still remain pretty constant

I think many here will remember a lady in Wales who was a Guns n Roses fan who left Fab more than once after being emotionally upset by the forums.....
I also know of a young man who suffered depression and killed himself and although I am NOT blaming the fab forums for that in any way, it's just a stark reminder that you never know the state of mind of the person reading hurtful responses to things.
I guess the point of my whole thread is maybe be a little more aware of what you say and the impact it could have on folks.

It’s far less brutal than when I first started posting about 4 years ago. There were groups of people just waiting for someone to say the “wrong thing” and then they’d descend and rip the poor fucker to shred.

Yes a lot of the threads are getting ranty and argumentative again. Some people take great delight in posting evocative posts. I spend a lot of time rolling my eyes and just scrolling past. Perhaps it’s how I’m feeling at the moment but I’m lurking more than posting because of it x |

Not sure if people see my "band t-shirt" thread as trolling. It's genuinely not meant that way. Virtually everything I post is tongue-in-cheek and some people's reactions do amuse me but I'm never malicious.

I’d say the forums are much tamer these days than a couple of years ago.
There used to be quite a few in here who could argue in an empty room.
I’ve seen some horrendous threads over the years where the pack mentality really was on show in full force. |

People who stuck in your mind, who you grew used to seeing. People you met and grew to know as friends.
