Serious question, at 55 how much do you think you need tucked away to live comfortably, assuming house is paid for and you want to stop working?

Depends if you're taking a pension already? 225000 at least I'd say.

Speaking as one who retired at 57 I'd say it entirely depends what you mean by comfortable.

All depends on your lifestyle.

I'm 42 this year. If I won a million, by the time I'd paid off the mortgage I couldn't retire on what was left to maintain my lifestyle.

As for retiring at 57, no, I'll be going down to a 3 day week though.

Depends on your lifestyle, expenditures, expectations, living off the grid, city living, country living, socialite and how long you plan to be living. Hard question. You could have 25 different valid responses.

Exactly, if my house is paid outright and bills took care off I would be very happy as I'm not really a materialistic person. Spending long periods in beautiful areas would suit me

7 times your best income. I've been looking after family, ran through at least £30k per year.
