Because everyone see's the world differently. What we may not like about ourselves others may find to be amazing. Also,I've accepted who I am which took until my early 30's to do. Once you realise that you are who you are and more so that others people's opinions don't affect you. Then you can be happy. I'd ask your friend to reflect on the fact that there are 7 billion people on this planet so it's impossible to like everyone. Rather than dislike yourself, learn to accept yourself. No one is perfect and no-one expects you to be. The world is a hard enough place to live without you disliking yourself.
