Hi all, this is mainly aimed at pet owners, my question is how long after you had your pet put to sleep did you wait to get another. Our 16 year old dog may have to take a visit to the vet soon and I, Jez will be lost without him,as he helped me get through my cancer treatment.
Wife says she doesn't want another dog but I'm changing jobs soon where I will be working nights so someone will always be home with it
We always go for rescue dogs rather than from a breeder. |

When my lovely little lady passed we never got another one but a friend of mine she waited about 8 months, she was obviously devastated when he little man passed away and took her sometime to recover, I know other people that have got one a lot sooner, it’s how you feel xx |

I think it's up to the individual. We have always sworn we're never having another cat each time they either die of natural causes or we have to make that horrible trip to the vet. We usually last about a week.
Pets are such a big presence and leave such a gap. |

So sorry to hear that, good you are preparing for it. Hope you are making lots of memories.
I had to have my German Shepherd put to sleep 8 years ago, he was my world, my best friend. Developed epilepsy, controlled by meds, he did well. Had him for another two years before he suffered a massive fit, and collapsed, lost conciousness and never regained.
Weirdly I knew that would be his last summer, so I took two months off work and we we went out everyday, seaside, playdates with his doggy friends, the park etc, I allowed him all sorts of treats, chips, ice cream, he had it all lol. Never left his side.
I was devastated when the decision came.
It was four years before I got another pup, a GSD, weirdly, great great nephew of my original boy.
He is 4 now and a complete arsehole, but I love him! And tbh, dreading the day I have to say goodbye |

My brother has always had GSD, after his last one said he would never had another dog. His daughter split with her BF and my brother ended up with her dog, guess what it's a GSD. She is a beautiful dog, very loving. |

I said never again after our last dog died and it felt like I meant it at the time, but 18 months later we did it again. |
