" what your subject matter is actually about "

It’s basically from a meme that does the rounds on social media every time there is a bank holiday.

It’s aimed at people without a job and why are they getting excited about a bank holiday which is a day off for most people. When they don’t have a job to go to.

In other words, it’s sterotyping

Ironically, I can’t afford to work

With childcare costs I’d be paying more for nursery fees than what I actually earn. Gonna stay on the supply bank though and work when I can. Both my parents and C’s parents are young, so all work full time and can’t help out

That's a tough one not affording to be able to go to work. When my grandson was born and my daughter was ready to go back to work we worked as a family. It wasn't easy as I work full time. We pitched in as much as we could. I really feel for people with no support system and who find themselves reliant on the state.. I've been and it wasnt much fun. Needs must and all that.

I'm not sure there was one. Ppl look for what they want to see, some posters just have random thoughts and post, I don't see a problem with that and at least he's entertaining some miserable bastards and helping them to feel morally superior and increasing their sense of self importance. You said "Dude's just having a laugh, give the guy a brake or move on and ignore". All others are saying is they don't find it funny. Maybe for them they don't find povery amusing and why shouldn't they take it personally if they themselves are in that position. Struggling financially isn't to be ridiculed.

Perhaps I don't have a sense of humour. I'd put a laughing emoji,but apologies I don't use them.

Not being funny but you posted "what exactly was the joke?" in a public forum..... My reply was just my take on it, to say the joke is maybe inside his head and there's nothing wrong in that, and ppl are seeing offense that wasn't intended, thats just my personal view however. If you've seen his other posts you'll get a sense of his humour and that he's provocative but not offensive. Personally I see that as healthy and it breaks down some of the barriers and fears that can make this place a bit sterile at times.

I'm sure he'll answer you in due course, now that he's aware that you were directing your question at him

(I hope nobody but you replies to this reply because obv it was just for you) (also hope everyone can see the humour in this)

I did, it was a question to a person, hence the question mark. If you want to answer for a person by all means do that, but it isn't your answer I was interested in so why I said I am sure he can speak for himself

Xperia, on the one hand you say he’s having a joke, on the other you say you’re not sure there’s a joke there - is there room for some people to find the post rather tasteless (regardless of whatever the intent is) without you labelling them as not being able to take a joke, or looking for offense - can it not simply be something that a number of people felt they wanted to comment and say they found it tasteless?

I get why some people have a divided view on this thread.

But honestly in a area such as great yarmouth it is all so common to see and hear. How the small number of people get their monthly universal credit and poof they are skint after 2 days.. it's no wonder why social media and the media highlight it to make people even more divided and conflict amongst people.

I think people should contribute to society if they claim benefits. We all have to contribute to reap the rewards. Benefits are there for a reason, some abuse it and some really are in need. I have no objection if people need it but I don’t see any good reason why they can’t give something back to society. If I didn’t have a job I would volunteer just to be out there doing something and making a difference.

This thread? The OP knew what would happen and perhaps feels it has been a success? I don’t know. Just asking

OP has already said you can interpret it as you wish

Some people have read way too much into it. But hey, it happens

Yes. I didn't have any choice with the amount I got. Besides, I wasnt on it long. Got a shitty minimum wage job until I found something better.

I think people need to remember that whilst there will always be people who play the system or choose the benefit system as a "lifestyle choice" there are many people who through no fault of there own can't work and even though they would love nothing more, so reading some of these comments could be very hurtfull. Imagine being fit and healthy one minute than being long term disabled the next. Would you want people to be understanding or use the fact you have no choice to live on benefits as a "bit of fun"!

"Imma be jobless soon

Having a child is the most important job you'll ever do with that comes the greatest rewards in our life.

Well said!

I know and I agree - but I do love my job so much

Do you have to quit? Don't you have the option of maternity leave and going back after a bit?

Ironically, I can’t afford to work

With childcare costs I’d be paying more for nursery fees than what I actually earn. Gonna stay on the supply bank though and work when I can. Both my parents and C’s parents are young, so all work full time and can’t help out

Don't you get a certain amount of free childcare a week? Iv never really looked to it as I don't children but it's worth checking out.

Not enough to cover it. C would even get childcare vouchers through his work but that doesn’t even help much

It’s all fine though. I always said I wanted to be at home for at least the first few years. I just adore my job and will miss it while I’m not there!"

I stayed home with my second baby. I don't regret it at all. First word, first steps. Great memories.

I stayed at home with all my children until they started school! The first time I was on benefits (the second time my partner supported us!)

I used that time to get some I.T. Skills, do an English A level and do some voluntary work as well as bringing up a little girl who grew up to get a first in maths and now pays more tax in a year than I earn! I don’t think any nursery/child minder can bring up a child as well as a loving, invested parent can!

As I see it - society invested in her/us and now society is reaping the rewards!

"Hope you got your giro in time for this lovely bank holiday weekend "
. Giros were replaced by direct payments roughly 12 -15 years ago in the North London area.On a bank holiday most claimants on Income Support , Employment and Support Allowance , Jobseekers Allowance get there payments 1-2 days earlier than normal.Universal Credit which has replaced all of the benefits I mentioned is paid monthly. Most claimants know they have to make their money last a bit longer if they get it early also it’s not good but we do have food banks and half price travel on the buses to help. Not ideal but this is life for some on benefits

I used to work for the National Careers Service and one of my roles was to go into Jobcentre to help people find work. I had two groups, JSA and UC. Every person on UC was complaining because it really messed up finances. People are really struggling exactly how you have said and worse!

Back then when I used to help people some of the Jobcentre's/staff were a shambles! I spoke to everyone and there were major issues/concerns. It's a very complicated system so won't go into details. However I also came across people that were really helpful and dedicated in being supportive. Really sharing their knowledge. That enabled so many people to get back into work.

CV's, interview techniques, searching for jobs, researching roles etc so many things can help. Sometimes it actually depends on the person you meet in the jobcentre. Literally! If you have a good coach/careers advisor it can make a difference in the length of time you're out of work.

Finally I will add:

As an individual who ever is jobless and looking be proactive. Be determined and ask questions. Be persistent. Keep "knocking on the door" the door will open and when it does grab that opportunity! Wave goodbye to the jobcentre/benefits and before you know it... a new chapter has started.
