The new film is not good at all. The book and the original TV series with Alec Guinness is much much better. You can't condense such an involved story into a 2 hour film

but i have read the book and seen the alec guinness version so i knew what was going on...

I must concur with majority I am afraid.

Too mnay slight nuances and subtleties involved to make it enjoyable, and what exactly was the point of the 'sex' scenes?

My 2 cents worth anyway

cos hollywood got scared of making a film with hardly any women and set in the decade that style forgot?!? so they had to sex it up somehow. and lets face it, Kathy Burke ain't hollywoods dream leading lady! though a bit young to play connie i thought, she did a cracking job though.

Kind of freaked me out with what happened to her (not saying as don't want to ruin it for anyone)

Titz Towers, North Notts

The film is ok as a film, but doesn't half suffer in comparison to the series or book

It doesn't have the cracking woodwind section doing the intro music, either.
