I tend to shave for a meet, just to look presentable.

The length therefore helps to show the passage of time in between.

Beard in the winter, keeps me chin warm and if you get stuck in a snow drift there is enough food stuck in it to keep you alive for a day or two

I've had at least a goatee but usually a full beard since about 21.

Ultimately I think my face looks better with than without. My chin/jawline is my least favourite of my facial features anyway.

Furthermore I have sensitive skin and when I do shave have to put up with folliculitis and ingrowing hairs. I save an awful lot of money on overpriced razorblades too. However I don't suit the shaggy look so I'm always neatly trimmed
