When a craving hits remember that it doesn’t last long. Intense cravings are less than 10 minutes generally. Get an energetic distraction that you can do in short bursts when a craving hits. Learn to belly dance? Shuffle dance? Skipping? Maybe get a games console?
I quit 9 years ago. It was hard but it really does get better by the week. Good luck! X |

Find a nice tasting vaping liquid and start with a high percentage of nicotine.. Lower the nicotine everytime you buy more liquid, until you are down to vaping 0% nicotine. |

Champix tablets from my gp helped me.
Changing your routine helps to.
Good luck. It's been nine months now and I'm never going back. Can't stand the smell |

I stopped cold turkey 11 years ago today funnily enough.
I was diagnosed with extremely high blood pressure (malignant hypertension). Spent 5 days in hospital as they attempted to diagnose a cause. They told me smoking wasn’t the cause but it made it worse, so I stopped then and never smoked cigarette again. I tried giving up many times but in that day I stopped and swore I’d never smoke again because I wanted to live to see my sun grow up. |

First of all well bloody done for deciding you’ve had enough. Get support from your GP and make yourself accountable.
I still class myself as a smoker even though I haven’t had my lips around a ciggie in ages. It’s a daily battle between me and my habits. I’ve switched to a vape. Not ideal and it took ages to stick. I found a vape that works and juice that I like. Next step is weaning myself off nicotine.
Best thing about not touching cigarettes is that my hair is just so lush now. I really should have done it much much earlier. Good luck op x |

Mr here - Tried everything on the market and didn't work, so decided to just go it alone and never looked back. As someone has said cravings last around 10 minutes at a time, so just try deal with them as they get easier. I did put 3 stone on, but lost it once I'd cracked the habit. Never looked back since and wouldn't thank you for a cig now ... Yuk! |

So I'm fasting at the moment 30 days clean. So that for me means no wanking no porn no smoking cigs or recreational use of drugs basically.
Best way I did this was picking a new hobby for its either reading a new book or colouring books I know childish but its helped me. And since start of May havent done anything living a clean life.
And if your craving a i suggest a slickcut purple cigs taste like air or rollie i suggest rollies because i think they are cleaner than cigs and the effort of making one will defo make you smoke less.
Hope this helps kicking the habit is hard but well worth. |

I quit for 12yrs, went cold turkey after a family 'spat'
Stupidly started again during a stressful period.
Tried for over a year to quit. Just couldn't, tried everything.
Eventually tried Champix
I smoked my last fag on the 10th March
But the side effects to the tablets? Oh my!
Seriously... I've been to hell and back on them
I know the long term benefits are worth it. I've got 2wks left to go on them
There's been days some people are lucky to still be breathing. Myself included! |

A book by Alan Carr helped me (not Alan Carr the comedian lol)
It helps you realise everything you believe about smoking isn’t true.
There are no benefits, it doesn’t help with stress, concentration etc it’s tge gradual withdrawal from nicotine every time you put a cigarette out that makes you stressed and anxious in the first place.
Cut out the smoking and you will be much more relaxed and focused when you get passed the first few weeks.

"Has anyone got any good tips on how to stop smoking please "
I never found tips helped me personally. You'll give up when you really want to. But you could try smoking more than you normally would as it makes you feel queezy just looking at fags after that.
I gave up about 15 years ago when I started getting quite bad breathing problems. Giving up was easy by then, if a bit too late |

Everyone has a different stopping method so it depends on what works for you really.
The first time I stopped I had patches, everyone said think of the money you'll save but the patches were more expensive than the tobacco plus I didn't really want to stop so I didn't get far.
The next time I quit for good, I ran down my tobacco and got down to 2 fags a day, including the whities! But didn't stop till I had no tobacco left, it helped that my ex didn't smoke and the new laws in said I couldn't smoke at work.......I did cold turkey!
I have only had a drag of a fag a few years ago because I was out with smokers and I was pissed, oh my god it was disgusting, I definitely will never smoke again!
I wish you all the luck in the world
Keep us posted |

I gave up with an e-cigarette. Was hard initially but eventually I got used to it. I wasn’t a big smoker anyway but I did find it hard adjusting to routine. One tip
I’d say is to use your ecig always not as you would a cigy , use it continuesly until you get used to it. Then you will want it rather than a cigy. |

I went to Allen Carr stop smoking clinic, best thing I did, youre guranteed to stop and if not you get your money back, theyre so confident youll stop they allow you to smoke at session and have a big trunk to throw your box in when its all over, thats how confident they are |

Alan Carr’s EasyWay to give up smoking (not the comedian!).
I found reading through the book, book marking various sections like social before going out for the night really helped.
I was more of a social smoker so didn’t find it to hard to quit.
Good luck |

Alan Carr book again here!! Read it cover to cover in literally a couple of days...smoking, as it tells you to keep doing, and then literally as I got closer to finishing the book I just didn't want to light up another one!! It was amazing! And that was 15 or so years ago and I've never gone back to it!! Good luck OP!!

I tried 3 times to give up..
The first time was with a self book and CD which worked for about 6 months before I gave in and smoked again
The second time was with patches and that lasted 3 weeks! The following week after that I stopped by going cold turkey... that was 10 yrs ago so i would say go cold turkey ... and good luck however you do it |

"Right bit of an update I’m now down to 5 fags a day and using a vape just thought I’d give you an update
Good work!"
Well done. That’s exactly how I did it.
Gradually cut down using a vape until I finally managed to cut out the cigs completely.
Been 7 months now and I couldn’t imagine smoking again. Keep it up. |

I quit 16 years ago. Don't think about it. Just do it. Ifor you plan it it will never happen.
The cravings for each cigarette last only a few minutes.
If you compensate by eating more then so what.
Good luck |

Don't bother wasting your money on those nicotine replacement thingamies they will have you just as addicted to them instead of the dreaded fags! Just set a date to give up and go cold turkey. Throw out all your fags, lighters and ashtrays on that date and simply stop smoking. It's difficult I know but just have some will power and confidence in your own ability to stop! |

I smoked 40 a day for 15 years and tried everything under the sun to help me with no avail. In the end I just got tough and just went cold turkey. I hated being controlled by a dirty, harmful smelly habit and I won. Just stop by using your will power and no gimmicks. You can do it!! |
