The guy who murdered his wife and children is having the memorial service today here, although what he did was horrendous im just using this as an example. We had to walk past the church and an hour before the memorial there where all photographers and televison crew there. Do you think everyone should be allowed a quite send off by there family or do you think the publice want to know. When his wife the victim and he where buried in one of the villages here you couldnt get in or out the village for press.
Im just using this as an example but even hero's whose funerals are invaded by the press, should they be left alone |

Fairly easy answer, no they shouldn't but scandle sells papers. If you think that the press is too intrusive, don't buy newspapers.... |

I think after all the negative publicity the press has received over the last few months they would have learnt to let people have some privacy. Predictably though they have not. Maybe its time for more control over the activity of the press. |

A funeral is a public event and cannot be held in private, of course the wake after is private and the gathering at the house, but the church and the committal or the crematorium are open to anyone to attend. Of course the morals or attending a stranger is a strange one.
The same as a Wedding, anyone can attend the church service or registry office wedding.
Befoe you all kick off and mention celebraties or famous people etc, crowd control and public safety kicks in there... |

I dont buy newspapers, i was asking a question if you think people should be left in peace for funerals/memorial services" Ah, I answered the question should the press be allowed to intrude, no they shouldn't. Should the family be left in peace, yes they should.
Other people buy newspapers and complain about intrusiveness, not buying papers (or buying with more discression) is the ultimate answer to the whole question.
The Sun learned it's lesson after the lies it printed following the hilsborough disaster as to this day, I never see any one reading the rag. |

People who lead relatively quiet lives do not have this problem. There are many talented people in our society do not suffer his, mainly because they do not base their career on being sensational in order to attach celebrity.
Live by the sword, die by the sword. Quite a true saying really. |

A free press is one of the corner stones of an open society.
Of course if the press lie, cheat etc the ones that did, should be called to account.
There are many things we wouldn't know about if the press was gagged, and similar with the super injunctions a blot on an open society, and should not be given. |

But what about all the non celebrities, people that have died in awful circumstances. People that are not in the limelight |

If you take the example of military personnel. There has been someone who has advertised the death or deaths of those involved together with the place of the burial or service. More discretion all around would not go amiss. |

Im have mixed opinions on this one,i think his family should have the respect and dignity they deserve. But he is a different matter, personally why should he even be allowed dignity in death, his wife and kids obviously never had that in life. |

funerals should be private events, without the press pushing their way in...i think this is one of the things leveson is looking at

They can't be due to their nature. So many rules, laws, regulations revolve around a dead person. Hence as many people as possible need to know, and witness the burial.
Of course, many of us like to know the out come of many a news story and many do end up with the funeral. |

I don't know anything about the case so must have missed the publicity about it.
I wouldn't appreciate the press at a family funeral unless they were invited.
I don't buy papers as much as I used to due to reading news online watching t.v. and listening to the radio.
Would I read a story about his funeral? Yes. So I guess I contribute to sales.
It's human interest. Everyone likes to gasp and tut ; lay blame and give thanks it's not them. We learn to make the right noises whether we care or not.
Yes. The press should cover all such stories. What is the point of hiding it all from people? These stories are how we decide what our world is like.
I'm not so sure it takes a whole gang of reporters though and maybe just a written account without pictures would be more respectful but pictures tell are worth a thousand words even if they lie.
I'm going for YES. The press should be allowed to report. If a family die in spectacularly tragic circumstances it's going to make the news.
Let's face it. If they hadn't reported any of it this thread wouldn't exist. |

A few years back one of my nephews died in a car accident. The papers tied to invaded my sisters house to get a view of how she was feeling not even ten hours after his death. They were thrown out. Then they tied to get into the church service again they were thrown out. At the internment that only our family vicar and family attended they tied to take photos and get comments their camera's were wiped of the pictures and one of the uncles had stern words which resulted in 30 days in jail. People who do this are bottom feeders that feed on people's grief and sorrow. I never by papers if I want news I use tv or web even before my accident. They say freedom of the press how about privacy of the person. |

I would have to read up on the person you are talking about but sadly if it is in the news then it will be reported.... and that I don't have a problem with.
What I do find distasteful is to what ends they go to to report it....last week on the news there was a report of Whitney Houston getting taken from the hotel by a coroners van...and photographers were sticking their cameras against the blacked out windows to get a picture....what exactly did they want to see?...it is goulish. |
