hi guys you heard me say before... my brother and his gf and an engagement party...
i said i wasn't going to go as his wife t/b was slagging me off behind my back to a girl i liked.
i wasn't going to go... party stated a 7:00pm... 8:00 i got a call from my dad who said "are you coming, everyone is asking where you are" so i go everyone is there all family member so no wonder they were wondering where i was as i haven't seen some of them in years.
end of the night spoke to my brothers friend who is best man.. he tells me to go away and doesn't want to know about evens over the past years... then threatens to hit is i dont go... some woman starts laughing and tells me to go home... i tell her to fuck off and how would they feel if didn't get and invite when everyone had one months ago.
i go.
i say to me brother and dad hes best man and threttedned to hit me and its a family event and i was told to leave.
put even more strain on it... i was right was better off not going as now me and best man are not currently speaking. |

I understood exactly what you were saying.
I also understand the parts that you conveniently left out.
Here goes ......
You sat at home like a brooding child allowing the chip to fester to your shoulder bone because you didn't receive an invite.
It hurt.
Your family contact you and ask you to go.
You neither accept nor decline with grace. Instead you vent your hurt to your dad like an emotional child and say .... 'what family haven't seen them for years'
You speak to the 'best man' to be. Instead of letting things go and deciding to live in the moment and aim for the future you drag up the past and 'probably' say unsavoury things about family and family to be.
The best man - quite rightly - says leave the past where it is. He eventually gets fed up of you and says just go.
A woman tells you to fuck off. Probably not out of nowhere. She too has more than likely heard the stuff you are saying. I'd guess you'd had a couple of drinks.
They tried with you. You blew it.
Maybe a bit of counselling about why you feel so unloved wouldn't go amiss.
Best wishes for the future n I hope all is well at the wedding. If you go - don't drink.
A wedding is to CELEBRATE for the couple. NOT to open old wounds. Which is how you treated their engagement party. |

Sorry if I am leaping on some established piss take, but I can't help but feel that if OP was a woman, the sisterhood would be rallying around.
I have been lucky enough never to fall out with my family, but my cousins did not speak for about 5 years following my Uncles death.
It was realy uncomfortable through that period and fortunately my old man was able to get them both out for a few pints and knock their heads together and it's all sorted
This bloke is obviously trying to get genuine advice on what to do here and we seem to just be taking the piss......

1964/65 I would say, their first UK hit, before Justin Hayward came along in a couple of years. |

I am at a loss why you felt the need to post this in a public forum. you would be far better talking to a friend about it who is likely to be far less judgemental. you obviously need some help with this situation but there are far better places than here. |

the problem with pissing and moaning on an internet forum is that the contributers only get one side of the story, and there are always self incriminating ommisions.
as has been said, talk it over with a friend that knows both sides of the story. that way you get a fair opinion of advice and not just a forum full of people calling you a childish idiot and to swallow the past and enjoy your brothers day.
personally, it sounds like you are bitter at not being chosen to be best man. |

OK serious advice for the OP… *cough cough clears throat*….
Stop playing tit for tat over idle gossip, because if you keep up your current behaviour it won’t be gossip it will be fact.
Of course the friends of this woman aren’t going to listen to you... did you really expect them to? You do understand the concept of friends don’t you?
It got to the end of the night and you trying to make people pick sides, not just any old people, your brother's best man, before any incident happened. Have you ever thought you were being told to leave as it was in your best interest to shut the fuck up at that point?
You had the evening to enjoy with family. You had the chance to prove your critics wrong… instead you chose to prove them right to a wider audience.
People at the party wouldn't be aware of who is meant to have said what to who.... and the vast mjority won't care.
They will however be aware you behaved like a dick.
There's only one way to turn the tables on someone slagging you off.... that is to prove they are wrong. Running around like a mardy child won't win you supporters.
Alternatively, you could blame the world and lose them all. |

Actually there was a similar post here a few months ago by a woman and, if I recall correctly, the replies were similar. Maybe not as harsh, as she didn't come across as quite so clueless, but pretty much all wanting to know why someone would air their dirty laundry on a public swinger site forum. |

How can it be "dirty laundry" when no one knows anyone involved ?

If you air your dirty laundry in public, you reveal aspects of your private life that should really remain private, by telling a secret, arguing in public, etc. Doesn't have to be anybody we know. |

Surely if one is posting as an anonymous type person ...... it could be anyone's laundry, thus one is not revealing any aspects of one's private life.
Sorry if I'm being a bit thick headed on this one, but if random single male posted a thread " Just caught my grandson rodgering the neighbours dog " would that also be considered to be " airing one's dirty laundry " ?

oh my god god op ! exactly how old are you ? the thing that speaks volumes to me is the fact your own brother was getting engaged and you were sulking and not going to go ! it doesnt matter if you dont like his gf (its his choice of life partner not yours) .its dosesnt matter if she has said things to her friends about you (unless what she said was actually the truth ! ).the ONE and ONLY thing thats importent is you were there for your brother and you blew it ! im 500 miles away from my faily and i would walk over hot coals to ensure i was there for their special occasion ! all you have done is whitter on about how YOU dont like the gf ,how YOU had been slagged off ,how YOU didnt wanna go ,how YOU had been been threatened by the best man ect .guess what ..its NOT all ABOUT YOU LOL !!!
have you any any point given one tiny thought to how the hell your poor brother feels ??? one of the land mark days in his life and your stropping about like tantrum throwing toddler !

Totally off topic, but back in the day I was working in Manchester and one of the local numpties wanted me to help him with his new master plan.
'Yeaahhhh, you know these new trolleys at the Asda, you have to have a pound coin, and then you get a pound back afterwards...'
'yeah....'
'Well, like, if you can get a van we can nick a whole load at once when the shop's shut and they're stored outside, and get the pound coins out....'
Some people are beyond help.... |

"hi guys you heard me say before... my brother and his gf and an engagement party...
i said i wasn't going to go as his wife t/b was slagging me off behind my back to a girl i liked.
i wasn't going to go... party stated a 7:00pm... 8:00 i got a call from my dad who said "are you coming, everyone is asking where you are" so i go everyone is there all family member so no wonder they were wondering where i was as i haven't seen some of them in years.
end of the night spoke to my brothers friend who is best man.. he tells me to go away and doesn't want to know about evens over the past years... then threatens to hit is i dont go... some woman starts laughing and tells me to go home... i tell her to fuck off and how would they feel if didn't get and invite when everyone had one months ago.
i go.
i say to me brother and dad hes best man and threttedned to hit me and its a family event and i was told to leave.
put even more strain on it... i was right was better off not going as now me and best man are not currently speaking."
Its a shame when things like this occur. Probably not the best place to open your heart but i hope all works out well for you and bridges get fixed. |
