"Yes, I don't even know the number
P
Do you use it regularly? "
Nope, I think the last time I used it was when it had the old number (a year ago) and I used it to ring my mobile to find it. Changed to sky and haven't used it since.
I would use it though if I needed to make a call and my phone was lost/broken etc.

I do. Thought since I had the line for the internet I may as well use it. I don't know the number off the top of my head but it's in my contacts list. I actually find it useful to call home when nobody is answering their mobile, it always gets answered. |

I do, but only really because I'm paying for a phone line in order to have broadband. I never make any outgoing calls on it - as I get so many minutes included with my mobile deal - it's really only there for emergencies - oh, and for if my parents phone me as they still haven't worked out that it's best to call me on the mobile |

I did have but only calls I got on it was people claiming to be my internet service providers that where going cut my service off if I did not pay them money over the phone. Just another scam, so unplugged the phone so no not anymore |

I have a landline, as its inclusive in the package I have.
I havn't had an actual phone connected to it, though for nearhy 3yrs.
The only people I gave the number to were my mum & my sons school.
It's obviously a recycled number, as I'd get dozens of calls a week, asking for same 3 people.
After a year of trying to explain, I'd never heard of these folk, ask the callers to remove my number from their lists.
I gave up & unplugged the phone.

Yeah, I do and it's like the bat phone! When it rings its usually something really fucking important.... .....or my dad, or a twat trying to sell me something, or someone who is blocked on my mobile....
.....landlines are ace! |

I haven't had a phone connected to the line for something like 10 years. The only people using my landline were cold callers, everyone I wanted to talk to called my mobile. It seemed pointless so my phone is now sitting in the cellar gathering spiders. |

Yes, and I use it daily, though I do work from home. Shockingly, despite living only 20 miles from central London and close to the centre of a large commuter town, mobile reception isn't quite reliable enough. One of the many culture shocks Her has had to get used to since moving out of central London.

Had one for a couple of months when we moved in but only because it came with the broadband package, my mum was the only one to ever call me on it, since we cut the internet off as talk talk was so shit, just got the mobiles. But then if they go down we only have works landline just 22 seconds away lol. |

"Well do you? I have a phone line for my WiFi but I haven't used a house phone for years.
"
We do but it's not plugged in. Had enough of "John" phoning me from Bombay to try and sell me some crap. |

Yes we do. We actually use ours a lot as where we live there is no mobile signal. We thought it was just our network provider but nooe it doesn't matter what network there is none |

No, we had one for the same reason. After my first miscarriage and surgery my depression and anxiety was sky high and whenever the phone rang I had a panic attack. C was working so he unplugged the phone |

" I dont , but I do miss it, i loved the old circular dial ones in phone boxes where it took about 3 years to make a call "
Never understood why emergency number is 999 when it took forever to dial it!
I can still hear the clicky noise it made whilst turning

You'd have thought 111 would have been better ... however 999 was used in case there was a fault in the line that falsely generated those clicks you hear ... the likelihood that 999 would be generated falsely were low compared to 111 ... although ... the Americans kind of got it right with 911 ad their emergency number |

"I think Virgin are the only ones that allow you to have broadband with no phone line, so worth considering! "
You can have a broadband-only circuit from any communications provider, they only tell you you can't to make you pay for it. |

I got rid of mine 3 years ago and have a Dongle with SIM for desk top. Has saved me a lot not paying BT £23/month landline rental for nothing. Never had Sky either as never watched much TV, so now it's only catch-up if I want to watch something.
Giffgaff SIM at £10/month |

Quite a bit of the time we have no other options. We all have mobiles but there's no signal on any network at our house from what we can gather. We have one of those boxes which gives us EE signal through the router and we have WiFi calling but it's patchy and again depends on having working internet.
Living in the 19th century has its downsides |

Yes, you still need to have a line, but you can forgo the voice part of the circuit. You pay to rent the line, but it should be cheaper than having a "phone" line.

"I think Virgin are the only ones that allow you to have broadband with no phone line, so worth considering! " so what did all the virgin customers do the other day when they couldn't make, any calls or texts |

" it isn't any cheaper on sky without phone line. I got quoted same price when I threatened to leave sky. They bent over backwards to try keep me. They even offered me sky mobile on top for £3per month.... |

That was a mobile only outage! However it did also affect me but it only lasted a couple of hours! I was trying to call my date to let him know that I was on my way lol! |

Yes. Last used a few minutes ago to call my mobile that I'd misplaced.
Otherwise it's cheaper for many things, including some people calling you. It's often more expensive for people overseas to call mobiles in another country than it is to call landlines. UK callers pay more for mobiles from landlines too, if paying per call.
A landline is also good for when mobiles are charging. Also needed for my broadband.
I prefer to talk on a landline and it's probably healthier too. |

The UK has also had 112, which is the European emergency number and both have coexisted for a couple of decades, perhaps longer. I assume that if the UK leaves the EU, 112 will continue as it's just a setting within our exchanges. |
