respect for standing tall m8..
but you must be in a bit of shock to think the 3rd spot or the fa cup will be yours this season..
Spurs will be 3rd and Liverpool will win the cup..

Yes think Guus would be ideal to step in and get you in the top 4 at the end of the season.
AVB will not be around for sure, not exactly setting the Leagye alight is he.
Shame really as i like him, but he's not ready for a massive job like Chelsea at the moment. |

Is it me, or for a very fast winger, Walcott is a bit chunky. Ain't they meant to be athletes ?
Wtf rosicky is another stealing a career, I had to play football this evening, thought I was having my leg pulled when I switched on radio on way home.

I don't enjoy seeing any English team suffer a defeat like that at the hands of Italians who go down like they've been hit by Mike Tyson almost as if it's a mandatory part of the game.
Arsenal will have to let go of this year's CL as they're not going to beat Milan 5-0 at home and if Milan score just once Arsenal need to put 6 past them. Not gonna happen. |

The manager picks the team, he motivates it and trains in this style. The buck stops with him. |

keeping a high line is only a problem when you're lacking pace or players dont run with the man they should be marking, maybe its the players that cant play the system, but defending is basic, just stay with your man, and put the tackle in when you have to, no pun intended lol |

the Arsenal fans at work will probably be happier tomorrow morning, though after the last 7-0 win they would have preferred 7 x 1-0 than all in one, now 2 games ...
the test will be if they can carry on these league performances til the end of the season ... Spurs are still 7 points above you and Chelsea are champing at the bit too |

england should have won the world cup, 3 maybe 4 times now.
yous replaced bobby robson with graham taylor.does anyone recognise a flaw here.
harry redknap should have been appointed manager, before capello.
it may be to late now.
with the exception of bobby robson.

there are two good english managers in the frame for the job, harry redknapp and roy hodgson both are doing good jobs at the respective clubs with unfinished work,i think a younger manager like stuart pearce should be given the job and allowed to learn and maybe make the mistakes, but learn from the experiences,we do not have much strength in depth to do much else i am afraid. |

Hodgson for England is a joke surely? He has had some good spells at some great clubs but he is a mid table team manager who will occasionally inspire his team to greater things i.e like he did at Fulham. I don't we need to mention the job he did albeit in difficult conditions when he left Fulham. |

i think liverpool only wanted kenny dalglish back and were waiting for him to say yes for his return.
hodson has done well on the continent and has a tactical brain whereas hary redknapp can hardly read & write(according to his recent admisssion in court!) did not hodgkindson once take an unfanciable side to a european cup final?,not many english managers have had that experience surely?.
who would you suggest for the job then?. |

i was all for hodgeson for england, as he was hardly pulling up trees at the albion, but the last 2 games we have been fantastic, albeit against a poor poor wolves side. then again, i suppose you have to have your best players firing to do anything.
which brings me to chelsea.
AVB needs 2 years to do anything at chelski, and a really hope he gets that. he has an old squad, full of players that are too set in thier ways and too powerful. he needs to get rid of the old guard, bring in fresh blood, and play luiz as a defensive midfielder rather than a rampaging defender, cuz he really is terrible going backwards.
oh, and arsene neds to spend or go. |

Not really. For the last 30 years at least our players have been far behind Brazil, France, Italy, Spain, Germany etc in terms of technique and knowing how to win. We could have had a Super Manager amalgam of Brian Clough, Bob Paisley and Jose Mourinho and we'd have struggled to win it.
Redknapp is a decent club manager with very little international experience. His reputation is boosted by the last couple of years but he's not exactly got a glorious history. He could be every much as big a disaster as Taylor. |

I say let Stuart Pearce have the job he has had international experience as a player and as a manager and has done a very good job with the under 21 squad. We would finally be giving decent chances to younger talent instead of playing underachievers who feel they have nothing to prove *cough* rooney, lampard, cole, terry *cough* and with a manager in place that those players already respect.
However the fans would have o be willing to be patience and give him time to find his feet. Don't expect miracles to happen this year but wait and see if he can show an improvement at th next world cup on the display we shown last time in South Africa. |

The trouble with Pearce is that he'd stick to the old guard too. He may be in charge of the younguns but with a big tournament he'd hedge his bets and take the has beens. Germany took a few years rebuilding after we shafted them 5-1 but just look at the mauling they gave us in return. Our media don't help things though and even if Pearce or Redknapp came out and said we won't win sod all for a few years while we rebuild the press would still hammer them. |

You have some good points there and with him knowing the system and what goes on it wouldn't harm. Besides it would be a hell of a lot cheaper and we could keep more games on terrestrial TV with the money saved. |

Those old guard need to be taught that their name isn't going to be on the team sheet every time and that there is always someone younger & hungrier breathing down their neck. Look at the Germany squad @ the world cup as a prime example of what a young squad can do. |

Well looking at how Frank Lampard is yanking AVB's chain at Chelsea you might have a point. It should be a huge privilege playing for your country and worth fighting for. Like you said it works for the Germans. |

all the pressure is now on AVB but i think the chelsea prima donnas need to buckle down to do the job like the mid table teams west brom, stoke, norwich, fulham have done to get themselves going again, you cannot blame the manager when you got 11 players on the field not performing for whatever reason and getting very well paid for it. |

Unless the reason they're not performing IS the manager..Reports seem to infer there is a split in the dressing room and its showing on the field.
If they get beat by Birmingham on Wednesday I wouldn't be surprised if AVB isn't there on Thursday. I don't like to see managers get the sack but I can't wait to see the back of him

as a boing boing baggie i listened to the game on radio as well as flicking through online reports and it seemed that the baggies grew stronger as the game went on,we got a few new faces in the team so i think the squad is stronger and there is more competition for a first team place and they wanted the win a bit more than chelsea,be a good watch tonight on MOTD i reckon. |

My point exactly. Domestic success does not always transfer itself to the international arena..."
but mclaren never REALLY had domestic success, in the sense of the word.
1 cup and mid table obscurity is success? in that case, there are 10 managers that qualify for the england job, in this country, and hundreds worldwide. |

i think roy hodgson is best qualified of english managers having european experience in the cups and in managing teams in europe,he has also got experience of managing two national sides and can speak 5 different languages.
i hope he does not take the england job though as he has unfinished work at west bromwich, the old guard at england think they have a divine right to play but no one really plays their heart out when wearing an england jersey anymore!,let stu pearce continue to take the under 21s through under his wing just like the amateur youth coaches guide the teams through from very tender ages through to teens. |

just seen that spurs have lost again!,when this thread started it was taking the michael out of wengers chances of taking over as englands manager when good ol' harry was enjoying a good run but now after 3 succesive defeats the gap between spurs and arsenal has narrrowed down to 4 pts now with arsenal having a game in hand!.

Harry really has to declare what his plans are to the team now if he hasn't already done so. If the squad are uncertain it's feeding on itself.
Mind you the FA seem to be playing a blinder again |

"
oh.... and robin van persie... he scores when he wants!!!"
The rumour is he will be scoring even more with his old friends, Toure and Nasri and a £220,000 weekly wage for city. |

Ops was it a slip up by Wenger or the skill of Martinez? Wigan were nailed to the floor 6 weeks ago and I would have bet on them going down but 4 wins out of 5 is a good result.
Gooners well sorry but you have a long way to go to get back in with the silverware. |
