"You have £5 to make yourself one meal your cupboards are empty except the items you need to cook salt, pepper, oil, pasta and rice.
What are you making?"
Smoked bacon & mushroom pasta in a mascarpone & blue cheese sauce & because I shop at Lidl I'd have enough change to buy a bottle of ale to wash it down. Happy days! |

I’d make a dahl with lentils and veggies from the market (and throw in some cashews if my money could stretch to a small bag.
It’d have complete proteins from the rice and lentil pairing, plenty of fibre from the vegetables, good fats from the oil and amazing taste. Better still, you could make a fairly huge batch for a fiver and could portion out/freeze it. |

This would also easily serve 4 but I wouldn't share, just feed myself for 4 days. Bert could fend for himself! |

As above; way too easy.
I cook from fresh every night and for £5 for two I'll give you homemade spaghetti with a homemade puttanesca sauce (most of the money will be spent on olives and capers), scrambled egg on toast with smoked salmon trimmings, a vegetable stir fry etc. |

Other half shops at Lidl so our evening meals never exceed £5 a night and sometimes two nights.
One chicken breast diced, seasoned with paprika, thyme and chilli (from the garden) garlic, red, yellow and green peppers, cabbage and leeks with basmati rice. |

Exactly what I was going to say. Except for the oil, plus, lentils are free on Weight Watchers! |

Easy. Large Chicken at around £4.00. Spatchcock it before cooking. Cover in olive oil, lots of salt and pepper. Then with my left over pound I would buy a red pepper, onion and a chilli. Fry them until soft, cook the rice and mix in fried veggies with a few table spoons of juices from the cooked chicken. Tasty, filling & Healthy! |

Vegetable risotto
Spend a couple of pounds on vegetables and stock cubes. There will be enough there for s couple of days and then you can save the next few days money for a bigger shop. |

A fiver is a lot for one meal. I don't spend £115 a week on food alone.
I'll do the dahl like the poster above and have a few peeps over. Do my own basic bread.
I pick wild garlic in season so wouldn't need an onion.... so do a make shift tarka. |
