Machines to replace trees

On the news this morning, talk of designing machines that can absorb carbon dioxide, tree give of oxygen and are a natural resource.

What sort of machine could do that, what would the cost implications be.

who going to pay for it ? “ would it not be more cost effective to stop needlessly destroying our forests and jungles”.

Much easier to levy a new tax based on mechanical infrastructure than on plants.

The world is going to hell in a remote controlled, gio-positioned, wifi hotspot emitting handbasket

This thread won't go far,it's not aimed at the poster above and there is no mention of a fuck or avoid, plus nobody cares about trees if there's a cake thread around

Supertrees in Singapore. I think they are more for air cooling and creating biomes via solar power but it wouldnt be much of a stretch to do co2 to o2 I reckon. Although Im no scientist. I do love trees though

If trees gave us free wifi, we'd plant more. Unfortunately they only give us oxygen.

I saw that thia morning and honestly I thought to myself, "why haven't I thought about this before...."

....if man can design machines to burn shit harder than humans can then why the fuck wouldn't he/she be able to design a super fucking efficient tree....

Serious innit.....

Yeah ok, I'm going to be accused of bring three hugger but...

Doesn't that illustrate how self obsessed mankind is? We want to design something that already exists because we couldnt be arsed to appreciate it.

Rhey already charge is for water, oxygen is next.

Its long been the blueprint for a svale world.

Havent you seen the guy from.Nestles comments on air/water?

Cant charge for its function.

However a device like this does have its uses in interplantery travel.

It's like only natural solutions matter to a man made problem or something along those lines, that's just a bit short sighted imho.... But hey ho....

And you think we can design and build a better, more efficient machine, using less natural resources than nature already has?

Interesting perspective. But trees aren't there to simply provide an atmosphere for us to survive?

They provide habitat for other creatures, pollinate, and to be quite Frank I think we need to accept that we share the planet not own it, and have a moral duty as a species to care for others.

I live in the country so I'm biased I guess, but creating to machines to nourish and reintroduce is fine. But we know it'll be to replace given our track record and greed.

In a word, yes, definitely, I'm certain a tree is not 100% efficient or there would only be one type, shape and size in each region, grasses wouldn't exist etc.... Is a bee the most efficient diem of flight? I'm not being funny, just practical

...what's your qualification on this subject? We can design drugs to beat natural disease can't we? You're using a device to communicate on, why not just make smoke signals and shout? Oh wait smoke involves burning lolol

Rant over but I wish ppl could think last their initial tribalisms and club mentality....

Peace, love, trees and all that's shiz

As the environment changed then the machines are replaced again with trees or some shiz like, that's if you like and we can home all orangutans again, but you see what I'm saying, if it's all currently going tits up, then we need to abanson ideals and get pragmatic innit....

Would they need a wind farm to power each tree?

I didnt take it as a rant just discussing.

I guess people prefer natural, as ultimately that's what we are?

Kind of like swimming in the ocean is so much more satisfying than a man made pool etc?

Sure I'm an advocate of the natural world, and there are efficient machines, but it's a far more complex debate than efficiency alone surely?

And when you look out your window in the country, what natural environment do you see, jurassic forest or a ploughed field covered in pesticides (albeit maybe natural ones these days but still taking away insect homes). Is your drive gravel? It's perspective, and with all green politics it's a decision on which point in history you want to return the planet to. Even then it'll be like back to the future with bad biff finding the sports directory, shiz. Time is time in my opinion for a good reason...

Depends how one intends to reverse climate change. There are already companies extracting co2 out of the atmosphere but it's expensive and very power hungry. We could do more to reflect solar rays but again what. I guess we could make a machine yo wipe out humans as a species, that would have the desired effect.

Absolutely agree with your last comment, but since it's unlikely to get through our political system then what can we do except build fake trees innit.....?

Also need to think WHY we preserve things, I reckon it's mainly for appreciation and so we can watch David Attenborough on TV and know that's all the amazing stuff is out there and feel warm and fuzzy, why would your average carnivore care if there were 1000000 or 100001 species of fish in the sea? But if someone in a factory wants to create a duper gm sheep to save Africa then God help him for creating a new animal.....

I'm all for just letting time take its toll on us all and our planet and firmly in the idgaf camp, I just can't abide politically motivated environmentalists with narrow vision and bulging wallets preaching to the "plebs" and selling us "natural".

It's certainly a tricky one. Hopefully there will be a pandemic that would drastically reduce our numbers. I used to think a good war would go the same but as we are moving towards fighting drone technology I guess that those days have long gone.

But I think the question is why don't we preserve more? The answer is simple, as a species we are so selfish, that generally looks at the world with greed. All we do is exploit, whether its resources or wildlife.

Cant argue with the politically motivated comment, as I feel a lot of green initiatives are actually exploited by companies to make money.

Sure our planet changes and evolves, but isn't there a stark difference between preserve and destroy?

I'm suggesting a considerate approach to life, not a return to a medieval existence chewing raw turnips and living in freezing cold habitats. I'm taking am ethical stance?

The technology exists to capture C02 from power stations, I've done some work in this area.

It's prohibitively expensive though.

I'm probs coming across as sarcastic because I'm trying to push some thinking in ppl. I don't mean to

My profession is sales and marketing of "natural, green" products and I see just as much negative as positive in the industry daily..... I think a man cannot come up with a non-man-made solution by definition and man is part of nature too.... Just think we're greedy cunts tbh....

It's an excellent idea and one I already had. They probably stole it from me.

I also had the brilliant idea of bioluminescent trees giving off light lessening the need for street lights.
