Was watching Breakfast until someone came on to moan about having the hair on her head touched by people.

So I've turned over to On the Buses .

Saw that and agreed with her, it's ones personal space so random strangers should respect it..

It's not moaning to not want strangers touching you in public, it's a weird idea that it's anything but wrong or acceptable..

But is it news worthy? I don't think so.

I didnt see it, but....people touching me as complete strangers ? That's not for me, I dont like unknown people standing too close in a queue.

A greeting or conversation followed by a friendly tap on shoulder? No problem. Creepy touching...wheres that leading to next?

"But is it news worthy? I don't think so."

It raises awareness about consent if nothing else...

On the buses is probably more fun.

I wouldn't dream of touching a strangers hair. But nowadays I'd think twice of passing any form of compliment.

Depends on your definition of 'fun'

I know that women with very long hair often get strangers touching it and sometimes on crowded tubes etc even snipping bits off. I don't know if this happens to men.

See I find that a bit sad, I still pass compliments and tbh have only ever found them received graciously..

I think there are a lot of urban myths and misconceptions some deliberate about how compliments are received, maybe its how and to whom they are made or perhaps there's an agenda with some in perpetuating stories about how their compliment was responded to..

People quite often comment on my hair for various reasons, someone even pulled it once to check if it was a wig. Touching a woman's hair is very intimate in my opinion, only certain people get to touch mine. If anyone else touched it without asking or good reason I would find it very odd and uncomfortable.

Thirded.

A compliment is usually fine (just not too dirty unless the context is right). It's all the other stuff. The leer. Addressing it to my tits. Not being prepared to take the oh thanks and walk off. It's highly contextual.

I've been wary of "compliments" most of my life. Time to return some of the discomfort to sender.

"I didn't see it. Were people/sranges touching her hair randomly? Was her hair long?"

She was a black lady who'd always had an afro. People would come up to her and just put their hands in her hair. Sometimes they would ask first but wouldn't wait for her to say yes or no and just do it anyway. She was also talking about people thinking it's dirty because she only washes her hair about every 2 weeks but that's what is best for her hair type.

Oh, this takes me back to when I was a young girl and strangers asking my mum if they could touch my hair which was styled as an afro then. I have even been asked the odd time now as well if I have my hair natural curls so I can understand how she feels as some haven't waited for me to reply and just touched it.

It's extremely rude and an invasion of personal space. They also commented on people touching pregnant women's bellies without asking too.
