Sex survey

An article on the BBC news website today reports that apparently British people are having less sex.

Nearly a third haven't had sex in the last month.

The report suggests that for many the desire is there, but people don't find the time.

Do you think this is true?

Are people generally getting less?

We read it this morning and laughed. It's no way a reflection of our sex life. How sad it suggests that people need to make an appointment in their diaries to have sex with their partner/spouse. We're very grateful for our sex life together.

Unless Red Bull are going to market a new version that makes you horny I don't see a use?

No idea, I can only go by my experience which i don't think is that typical. I've been with my partner for 11 years now, the majority of which has been very dry on the intimacy front. It's only been in the last 6 months that I've started to get anything of any regularity. But even so that could be anything from 1 week to 2 months with absolutely nothing.

Certainly not our experience either, we too are very grateful for our sex life

I guess asking on a site such as this, the overall consensus would be that this isn't the case ... but the sexual demographic here is probably not the same as for the country as a whole

There is a definite decline in frequency. Tiredness is the main stated cause but interest too has wained. On the plus side my biceps are getting more frequent work outs! Please becassured that I will continue to work diligently to find a solution to end this state of affairs but where there in uncertainty in the UK at the moment i can't rule out Brexit being a factor.

I would prefer that this uncertainty be brought to the bedroom so i can be in, out, in, out, in, out with a happy ending! x x x

I read somewhere. That the world split up into to path since the 2000. You got the gaming gen that think social media, gaming and other stuff is the way to have a social life many have poor sex lifes. then us lot that like hands on sex 3/4 times a day.

Even went on they more virgins at 30 then the last 50 years and it due to increase as a gen stay in there room to talk to each other. Crazy world.

This also seems so true... there are single men that want more ... believe it or not ... there are single women out there that want more ... there are established couples that want more than they're getting ... yet the trend is less overall all

So less sex than since they started the survey.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say that many of the audience here are contributing to this "trend" if some of the threads started are to be believed .

"I heard it was more specifically young people that are getting less sex, and as a young guy who hasn't had any action in about a year, I find that pretty believable

The biggest trend this article focused on was the age group of 25 - 44!! outside my age limits..so it's no wonder

I'm having more sex now than I did between those ages."

Me too... although Red is between those ages ... so there's the balance

That's quite a narrow age group. I suspect that if they widened it a different result would be achieved.

I think the survey covered all groups... its just a trend in this group was telling ... would need to find the actual survey rather than depend on a BBC reporter Haha

Oh. So is there an overall trend?

If the article is to be believed ... but the results themselves suggest it's a narrow view

Check out the actual analysis...

It does give a slightly different view than the BBC suggests

https://www.bmj.com/content/365/bmj.l1525

This is the analysis they have got their article from

"

It states it's a survey regarding young adults.

Indeed

Yet the BBC article makes a sweeping headline that the country as a whole is having less ... journalism in action

We'll have a Government drive to get us having more sex soon. This could mark the age of the swinger.

"So they've spoken to everyone in the country then?

No, thought not.

Probably a piddly small survey group

It was about 34,000 ... small compared to the population

But large enough to give a "good feel""

If you really want to know the required sample Size you could use gpower online calculator. I would thing 34000 would be enough though.

I think the rise in popularity of 'date nights' are partially to blame! Booking in time to spend with your partner once a month/week surely leads to routine sex after a while? A friend found that after a year of date nights with her husband she was actually having less sex and less satisfying sex as they slipped into the routine of 'its date night soon lets wait until then...' Or maybe I've got it wrong?

The article does suggest making a date in the diary ... "it doesn't have to be spontaneous" .. I mean .. really? Romance is dead perhaps

So far this year I have been having less sex than last year, and it will only get worse until I get back from my trip, not expecting any sex until September at the earliest. That will be in our diaries as soon as a weekend can be arranged

Not dissimilair to 'booking' in a meet on here I suppose. As part of a couple I would be very resistant to having a set night for it though, that wouldn't be my idea of fun at all

I’m in that age group also, and I agree, it’s probably true.

I don’t do it that often and I know my friends are the same too.

I booked a night in a boutique hotel with my wife as a surprise. We were so tired from work etc that we just wanted to sleep. Such a waste but we had a lovely time anyway. Sponteneous is better as there is no pressure on either party, just seize the moment and hope the chest freezer is strong enough to cope with it lol !

There’s an easy explanation for that statistic.

The majority of people who participate in surveys are daytime weekday shoppers who have nothing better to do than finger the fruit and veg in Waitrose then spend two hours nurturing a coffee whilst thumbing through the daily mail.

They have nothing to talk to potential sexual partners about and therefore don’t attract any.

The average British citizen is too busy working, socialising or shagging to stop for a survey.

Yes... fear not fellow humpers, sex is alive and well
