I’m a Liverpool fan, have been all my life!!
We are not the best team in the world...
I think Barca were shell shocked at the noise and the aggression we showed..

That's no mean feat and shouldn't be underestimated.

Fantastic result, great atmosphere but probably two players short of being the best team in the world right now.
Not a red but appreciate good football and always like to see the English teams do well.

I am a LFC fan and last nights result was incredible!!
Best team in the world?
Not yet but on our day we can beat anyone and we are certainly up there as one of the best in Europe with a lot of room for improvement.
It bodes well for the future!

Bit ott to say that Op, no team stays at the top for ever and we are not at the top yet..
It was a stunning night but even when we were bossing the old 1st division and feared in the old CL we were not the best in the world..
Teams have their ups and downs and this is a very good team with a very good manager who is building something.. |

I wouldn't say the greatest but over 2 legs I can't think of another team you'd rather not face, and if the second leg is at anfield you really are in trouble. Jurgen has the team and fans believing and in tandem that's a very potent mix. Good luck tonight spuds |

An excellent team yes, achieving great things....possibly. They've not won anything yet.
That been said, they're riding the crest of a wave right now so enjoy it, hope they do the business against Wolves and Citeh slip up. |

Liverpool are not the greatest. They came second and at this point have won nothing.
Nor have they won anything of significance for many years, certainly not the Premier League title.
They haven't even won the FA Cup which is possibly the easiest domestic trophy to win due to how teams field weakened sides.
Good luck to them in the CL final.

OP by your logic would you agree that *IF* Spurs win the CL they'd be the best team in Europe right now? And if they then go on to win the Super Cup or whatever it's called that they'd be the best team in the world?
No? Didn't think you would, I'm a Spurs fan and under no illusions that we're probably not in the best 10 teams in the world right now even if we do win the CL.
Liverpool are without doubt a very good team, but there are several who are better basically as a result of how long they have been successful for and actually winning things - Real Madrid, Barcelona, Man City and even arguably the likes of Bayern Munich, Juventus and others are up there as better than Liverpool, and that's without touching on some of the South American teams that we never hear about but are very successful in their own countries and continental competitions.
Simple fact of the matter is there is no measure of what truly qualifies the *best* team in the world, so you have to base it on success in terms of winning trophies and based on that, with a potential and unprecedented domestic treble on the table Man City are a better team than Liverpool. |

Where has anyone said Liverpool are a poor team? I think everyone who's posted has said that Liverpool are undoubtedly a very good team currently - what is being questioned is your thought that they are the best in the world, which they patently aren't - not even close.
And comments like "we've never lost to Barcelona over two legs" proves not a thing and doesn't automatically mean you are better than them - that is school boy thinking!!  |

As a big Liverpool fan can we leave this here. It's a ridiculous post to make and totally unquantifiable. We a good side,possibly a great side but n more than that right now. Spurs where probably the best side I saw at anfield this season and I'm nervous for the final but I hope having been there last year the experience will tell and give us No6. |

I'll stand by my earlier post.
They've been excellent for a couple of seasons, but won nothing (so far). That is still a possibility, Spurs won't roll over and have their belly tickled. Their results in the competition show that.
I'l go a step further and suggest that you can't quantify which side is the best in the world now, unless you were to have them in a separate super league containing all nations elite sides.
All that said, Liverpool have made huge strides into Manchester City's domination. A 25 points improvement on last season is no mean feat. Squad strengthening over the Summer could see the 1 point deficit overturned and beaten handsomely.
Only sustained success (winning) can determine any level of greatness. |

I actually think the final is going to be a very close call, and the fact it's Liverpool we're playing to an extent will take the "experience" thing out of the equation a little - whatever happens may the best team on the night win, and I hope it doesn't go down to being decided on penalties - not because I fear our chances in a shoot out but because it would be a horrible way to lose.
Agree though that the schoolboy "we're the best" thing needs a line drawn under it |
