I think the definition of swinging has evolved from ‘Swinging away from a partner and then back to them’.
I see it as more of a mindset that an individual possesses, meaning they enjoy consensual sexual activities with multiple partners, in both one to one and group settings.
I would say that if you are really only interested in one-to-one sex then that’s more NSA sex than swinging per se.
But that’s just my definition |

Personally I'd consider myself a swinger, I think it's a mindset as much as the act.
Multiple partners with no jealousy or possessiveness towards each other is a large part of it, also I've met couples for MMF's, if they're swingers then why am I not also? |

Well the swinging community hierarchy is dictated in the following order I believe:
1. Couples (MF)
2. Single women
3. Couples (FF)
4. TVs/TSs
5. Single Guys
If it was for the first two in the hierarchy then the community wouldn’t exist and this would just be another PoF like of community |

Yes we’re swingers, but traditionally it was a case of they went off with the other partner for solo fun whereas we only do same room. So we don’t truly fit into the original definition x |

Calling ourselves human surely is a label. Identification is part of who we are and is defined by who we are. If as many today try to loose identification there is a wandering lostness which soon engulfs them. A chicken and egg situation. |

I think if you do, you'll convince yourself you're an imposter here, when in fact who cares what others think.
Sure theres a small percentage of couples who look in disdain at single profiles, particularly Male, but the sites here to be used in the way you choose?
It's a term that needs to evolve I guess. |

Many words are labels, it's true. And often how we are labelled by others is a shorthand, not necessarily a bad thing, that they may use to identify or describe another. Once applied that shorthand can simply become a means to reinforce how others see us, and therefore a means of either opening or closing ourselves to others based on a shorthand that rarely defines the whole person.
I dont think it necessarily leads to a wandering lostness, more a recognition perhaps that we are all human, all unique, despite labels, and if we are content in our own situations then labels imposed by others, perhaps are less important than our own view of ourself, even if we also use labels to describe that position. |

I said similar on another thread - I don't think there is a single definition of what a swinger is any more - it originated in the "swinging" 60s as a result of the start of a move away from traditional family values monogomous relationships to a more "free love" approach for some - it then got taken over in the 70s by the car keys in a bowl wife swapping brigade beloved of the News Of The World.
Nowadays as Doc and _ea monkey have said above I think it's as much a state of mind as anything and as a result it's defined by the individual and therefore can mean many things to many people - the only "constant" being a view that involves potentially multiple sexual partners.
Either way I don't think it really matters how it's defined if we, as individuals, are happy with who we are and what we are doing |

I'm not sure if the labels have that much meaning. Was in this game before I meet my partner and now I am part of a couple. So technically by that logic I'm more of a swinger now than before simply by virtue that I'm in a relationship with a like minded prev. But labels can be misleading because we are together shit swingers; We spend more time propping up the bar, chatting, having a laugh and making new friends than we do having orgies and playing with new people (although we do enjoy an orgy). But what ever we get up to together we have a great time. So don't have much time for labels. |

Actually I’d call myself a swinger even though I’m not in a couple!
If I just met single guys on a one to one basis then I’d agree that doesn’t make me a swinger!
However, at clubs and parties I play with women, couples and small groups - hence I’d say that makes me a swinger?
I’m not too concerned if others disagree with the title though - all I know/care about is that I’m having a hell of a lot of fun with some lovely, sexy people! |
