Holidays at Home

Who here has ever had a holiday that ended up becoming a holiday at home due to unforseen circumstances?

This happened to me twice. The first time,me and the family were supposed to go on a holiday in Majorca but our flight got cancelled due to the Iceland volcano erupting so we had to spend our holiday at home.

The second time, we were on holiday near Filey on the north east coast but had to return home after 2 days because my parents found out that the tax disc (what they thought was not gonna expire for another month) was gonna expire that week while we were away.

What are your thoughts on spending holidays at home? I pretty much hate it as being at home is not a holiday plus it's a waste of time and I would much rather be at work instead of spending a week at home.

A few years ago we had a camping holiday booked. However, 3 of our 4 cats all became ill so we had to cancel and stay home. Fortunately they all recovered.

I think the tax disc may have been an excuse and they didn't want to tell you the real reason. When tax discs were still around all you had to do was pop into the post office and pay to renew. It didn't need to be one close to home, anywhere would do it.

I spend most of my holidays at home. It's easy to fill up your time and an opportunity to catch up with the stuff that gets put aside because you don't have time to do it.

Good idea doing that.

As for the tax disc, we check it and it was definitely expiring the week while we were away which was a shame we had to cut the holiday short as we were having a nice time as well.
