Is probably my greatest grounding tool when things get too much.
The premise is that there is no such thing as future at this exact moment as we only have the present we are in. Similarly the past is a collection of 'nows' that have already passed.. by overthinking everything we lose the magic of this very moment.
I've just sat outside listening the the birds and laughing at my daft dogs chase their tails with a cracking cup of coffee in my hand and the intermittent sun on my face.. for 15 minutes this was just perfection
So much time is lost by thinking about things that really don't matter.
Do you stop and enjoy the now?
Try it, you might like it..
Hope your weekend is filled with lots of lovely moments x

Exactly we don't see dogs with anxiety and stress.. we see creatures enjoying every moment. Think we can learn a lot from observing animals |

The great philosopher de Selby experimented with motion pictures in the early part of the 20th century. He discovered that what appeared to be "motion" and "movement" when examined closely on the cine film actually turned out to be a series of still moments which were run together by the camera. He postulated that Life was similarly one long series of halts and pauses joined up by the illusion of movement and seamless joins between the stops. Those same "stops" he had witnessed in the still images on the strip of cine film.
In one experiment he actually claimed to have visited Brighton by sitting in a dark room in London and looking rapidly at a series of over a thousand different photographs and picture postcards. The amazing thing is - many people in Brighton actually claimed to have seen him there that day! |

Got my Lads next weekend (5 & 9) just recently I've stopped taking my phone to the park and started watching them playing together. It's marvellous trying to remember that time, when going on the swings and slide was all I wanted to do.
Yes absolutely Op, be in the moment but animals and children often help us create that moment |

Hahaha we prioritise
But honestly it has been the best advice for me personally, to sit and listen whilst all the chaos stops has got me through some tough times.
Positive mindfulness is the way forward

I had learned this as a mindfulness technique, very grounding. I think that we forget more now than ever to be "in the moment" open our eyes, and genuinely SEE. Life becomes much more enjoyable, and a heck of a lot easier when we remove ourselves from our thoughts. |

"Now is right. Right now less so.
You'll find a moment when it's right x not every now is perfect."
I was not referring to my own situation but rather to the fact too often people expect things ‘right now’ rather than take the time to appreciate what is right with now. Hence echoing your post or may be just talking bollocks. |

Oh Saffron! This is a really wonderful thread and yes. I'm naturally an overthinker but stopping my somewhat incessant internal monologues and actually enjoying the here and now is really bloody lovely.
There's so much "on" nowadays and switching off from it and focusing on the now really helps recharge.
Love this thread, x |

I’m extremely fortunate to live in the English Lake District, and, working around the county every day, occasionally when work pressures try to get on top of me, I will park up somewhere and just take in the view An ice cream on the shore of Windermere, or a coffee on the top of Kirkstone Pass. I breathe in the air, take in the views, just chill out for 10 minutes.......I love where I live |

Absolutely! A deep breath and allowing ourselves to "be".
We (I) find myself getting so wrapped up over stuff that alone is insignificant, yet when coupled with a few other bits creates a whole picture of shit.
When I was recovering from the breakdown I had, allowing myself to see the beauty in everyday things was a huge part in getting me back on track, I vow from today to do this at least once per day.

We both do this. I was just in my greenhouse abusing my tomato plants because the darn things aren't growing when two magpies started hopping about on the fence and roof. The sun was shining on them showing all the colours in their feathers. I was kinder to my tomatoes after that and went inside feeling very cheerful |

It's easily done. Things mount up and jumble everything. I need to work hard to keep my mind on track and it's often sent into frenzy by things that shouldn't matter... and in reality don't. But when you've had to rebuild yourself from foundations up you see clearly what truly matters. It's just a daily battle maintaining that and not letting the demons win x |

What you’re describing is mindfulness, it’s quite a big thing within psychology right now... which is ridiculous really considering it comes from Buddhism, so has been around forever |

"Is probably my greatest grounding tool when things get too much.
Well said op x
Do you stop and enjoy the now?
Try it, you might like it..
Hope your weekend is filled with lots of lovely moments x

"Such a great thread to read through! Mindfulness is very powerful and something I forget to do all too regularly! It really helps to stop the monkey voices and the over thinking!!
**heads off for a walk... to listen, breathe and hug a tree!!
Have a lovely living in the moment day everyone! x"
It's easily forgotten in our busy lives! Great when you grab it and enjoy even if it's just 5 clear minutes enjoy your now x |

I have a nice south facing garden and nothing better than sitting outside watching the garden birds or getting a visit from the local cat. I have a lot of insect friendly plants on the go...just amazing and great therapy after a tough working week. |

It is yes.. this particular thread is based on the book by Eckhart Tolle. A lot of books can be a little overwhelming so don't sink in as well, but this one I read over again. Grounding techniques are a great benefit to anyone who has a busy life. It's too easy to not see the simple things |

"Love you saffie "
I love her moist! She's like the sarcastic, wise, calming, charming, beautiful, sexy, playful, subtle, thoughtful, sociable, adorable person I want to be when I grow up..... Makes my moment and I'm scared to comment on this wonderful post for fear of fucking it all up with my clumsiness.....
I'd best log off now for a bit and enjoy some reality.... |

"Yes I agree, many people actually are unaware of the present, too busy on their mobiles saying what a wonderful time there having instead of enjoying the moment."
Totally this.. it's good to step off the technology merrygoround and actually live it |

I’ve seen it at music gigs where people are so busy videoing and doing selfies I wonder if they actually watch the artist in the moment at all. I’ve stopped doing photos as I’ve got the memory in my head anyway. |

School plays, I'm often the only parent actually watching..... ....feels good when you actually use your own eyes to look at your own child rather than looking at a screen and stressing about getting a clip to bore unimportant ppl with in the future |

Drives me nuts this.. staring through a phone is missing the moment and allowing it to be then a memory. So much better to watch and enjoy! X |

The past is gone, it cannot be changed no matter how much we wish it could be.
Tomorrow just a hope, aspiration, a dream we are never guaranteed.
Today is all we ever have.
May your today be what you want it to be..... |

And ... yes I do sometimes. Brings you back to Earth with a bump when the ‘ in the moment of contemplation’ ceases |

Ha ha more just a practical solution to my muddled mind it's probably the most helpful thing I've learnt over the last few years to keep things in perspective x |
