I read an interesting book about it and I agree with it ranging from diabetes to cancer that sugar is in the most cases the root cause of it as the cells is feeding from it and getting more aggressive the more sugar you eat, he also said that the western food doesnt help with all the sugar it contains, he concluded that by cutting out sugar, not all but alot would help reduce the risk and even reverse the cancer, what is your view? |

So many things are said to cause cancer and other illnesses these days.
I just try to eat as healthily as possible and have a treat when I want one, it would be bloody miserable to be worrying about every morsel of food I shove in my gob. |

I’m sure it’s pretty much correct however someone will be along in a second complaining that they will miss their 17 teaspoons of sugar in their flavoured water and why should they miss out because overweight people have no control. It’s the way these conversations always go unfortunately.
Sugar is clearly not the best thing for us. |

"I'd be interested in reading the book.

Just read reliable sites on the net. Then make your own mind up.
I wrote a paper on the food industry years ago.

Agree with you entirely Shag.
Just look at the sugary / sweet aisles of your typical Asda store (including the breakfast cereal area) and the demographic of consumer these particular aisles attract...
It's all very Jeremy Kyle Show |

I think food these days is not what it was back when people like my Nan were young.
She’s 91 years old, she uses white & brown sugar, sprinkles sugar on her fruit & has copious amounts of tea everyday with two sugars. Never had cancer, or any serious illness, still I wish she would calm down with the sugar!
My Nan is in great health for her, she only takes Folic Acid & Vitamin D. She hates all that “low sugar, no added sugar” stuff and buys full fat/sugar. Although that is not to say that someone of the same age, doing the same thing won’t be ill or get cancer.
I do think in this day and age a lot of things we eat are the cause for bad health, illnesses etc.
I don’t drink hot drinks so I very rarely have sugar. I use sweetener without aspartame in, I like Stevia, and I only ever use that for my homemade sorbets or in pancakes.
My weakness is fried food! |

"Keto all the way x"
My research leads me to reason
Many people do eat far too much refined or high glycemic load carbohydrate too often
However for most humans ketogenic is far to extreme, and needless for positive health benefits, if not intensely understood I'd suggest could be potentially counterproductive
Depending upon activity level , about 200-700 net , mid glycemic carbs from a variety of food sources should provide optimum, fuelling and nutrition
As noted in an above post , the subject can be complex

I’m really interested in Keto & would love to try it but I’ve read that a lot of fruits are off limits?
Is that so? That would be such a deal breaker for me! |

Whole Carbohydrate constraining foods can be nutrition power houses , and contain VITAL fiber , keto without knowledge and understanding can lead to bad nutrition and lack of fiber , |

I shop in my local farm shop...most of it has been grown, picked and slaughtered outside.
Don’t get me wrong...their jars of pic’n’mix are definitely synthetic but most of the food is ‘real’
On the topic of sugar, yeah it’s not good for you. It’s common knowledge. That’s why you should cook from fresh, make your own dressings etc.
On a related topic, Shag, you read The China Study? Comes to the same conclusions as this but for animal proteins.
Basically, a vegan, fresh, wholefood diet is better for us. We all know that now. But it’s not going to stop me having a slice of cheesecake every now and again. It’s all about being aware of what you’re putting in your body and practising moderation and balance. |

Time and time again , the magic words , balance, moderation , awareness
It's the habitual , nonchalant over eating of sugar/refined,carbohydrates , or any macronutrients that generally causes health issues not the specific macro

Most berries are OK in moderation
Keto only really works with intermittent fasting ie eat lunch and dinner between noon and say 6pm, then nothing apart from keto allowed drinks until noon the following day. No snacking and no cheating
After you get used to it - takes a few days for the sugar cravings to die down, it’s easy - you don’t feel hungry, energy is up and most of all, you don’t spend all day eating
Disciplined but worth it x |

For weight loss & the health benefits really!
I’m on a weight loss journey, 3 stone down so far, I don’t really have a goal number to lose, I just want to get slim & tone up!
My diet is the hardest part for me, exercise is easy as I am quite active in my job, and also go swimming a lot.

I’m almost 11 years of low carb/keto and currently just carnivore.
Try the Diet Doctor and the Public Health Collaboration for excellent information based on GOOD research. |

Sadly, a vegan diet isn’t good for us at all. It’s a physiological fact that humans as a species need animal derived fats for health and longevity.
We are resilient bunch, let’s face it, most babies are fed skimmed milk fortified with seed oils and sugar and thrive but the damage at a cellular level is insidious. |

"I read an interesting book about it "
Pseudoscience.
Just because it's in a book doesn't mean it's true. In fact the dumbing down of science is down right scary.
The idea that cancer cells thrive on sugar has been around at least since the 1924 publication of Dr. Otto Warburg's paper, On Metabolism of Tumors. Warburg was a Nobel Prize-winning cell biologist who hypothesized that cancer growth was caused when cancer cells converted glucose into energy without using oxygen. This was an interesting assertion, in part because we know that healthy cells make energy by converting pyruvate and oxygen. The pyruvate is oxidized within a healthy cell's mitochondria. Since cancer cells don't oxidize pyruvate, Warburg thought cancer must be considered a mitochondrial dysfunction.
That's not how cancer works. Cancer is caused by genetic mutations, either inherited mutations, or those that are acquired over time through exposure to carcinogens or as a consequence of the normal metabolism of cells. Although healthy cells and cancer cells do convert their food to energy in different ways, that difference is an effect, not a cause, of cancer.
However, one of the elephants in the room when talking about sugar and cancer is obesity. Having a sweet tooth and consuming more sugar based foods is linked to obesity, and obesity is linked to cancer. Obesity alters hormone levels in the body which are associated with a greater risk of both developing cancer and having cancer recur or progress. |

Both are substances people can get addicted to & they can be bad for your health. |

Sugar does not cause diabetes, and has never been linked to causing diabetes, in fact keto diet will cause diabetes.
BBC even admitted as much, when they put someone on a sugar diet and someone on keto diet the one that had to be pulled off the diet because of diabetes concerns was the keto diet, not the sugar. The sugar bloods came back perfect, even olympic trainers looked at them and said they were what they looked for in their atheletes.
The goverment just wants a sugar tax. |

Do not follow my advice.
But the body sees food.
Whether it's sugar, protein or any other thing we care to eat
In the evening,it gets processed as fat whatever it's original composition.
But nobody needs excess sugar in a flipping drink! |
