I work in hospitality and have been doing it a long time, have seen and heard most things, just for once wish I could tell that person who is moaning about nothing to just piss off, tell them the truth and there be no blow back because of it

Anyone else wish they could do that ?

Every motherfucking day.

I've come pretty damn close a few times.

Maybe I have opened my trap once or twice. Fucking hell I've just remembered the old man who hit me with his walking stick and called me a racist!

Him and his family had seated themselves at a table that was reserved for a booking. I explained that the table was reserved and if they went to the door someone would find them a suitable table. Ohhh no, I was being awkward apparently, things got a bit heated and I was called a fair few names etc as I wasn't prepared to let them have that table. As the man got up he hit me with his walking stick and called me a racist. I screamed in his face to get out, if I'd not done that I'd have probably knocked the cunt out.

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

After 30 years of managing people there have been times I have come close.

Unsolicited telephone sales people get it when they don't take the first, polite, response that I don't have time to speak to them. One former PA clapped when I told one such salesperson that his pay grade wasn't high enough for me to speak to him. Not my finest hour but it helped.

What truth ? Your truth ? Are you sure you are suited to 'hospitality' ......

Far more class in holding your tongue and realising that your reactions to others are your business not theirs.

I do it in my own time, but not on my bosses. On their time it's smile and wave. They back us up though, defend us, take our side, know the score and appreciate us. There's a time and a place for mind speaking.

But I sooooooooo feel your pain

Worked in hospitality for years and it just breezed over me. As long as I was friendly, cheerful and ever so apologetic when they got exactly what they asked for but then didn’t want...I was happy. I love turning a customer rant into them apologising to me and promising to come back soon though...mind fuck alert

I owned a restaurant for 10 years.. was bloody hard graft and had all manner of idiots through the door.. once had a really d*unk, obnoxious couple arrive very late who I overheard plotting to complain about the food to get the meal free. I took the plates off them and said 'if you've no intention of paying for the food, you're certainly not eating it' and threw them out. Got a round of applause from the lovely regulars around them who were appalled at how vile they were.. they were good days

I work in hospitality too and usually I’m pretty good with the customers, even the ones who you can feel are right knobs but I still help them like I would anyone else.

We’ve got a wedding party in tonight and there is no table plan or anything..they are so bloody laid back about it all, don’t worry about us that have chicken and lamb dinners to give out, we will just read your guests fucking minds tomorrow shall we? Yeah, I was feeling my temperature rising tonight I can tell you, I still smiled and said it was ok lol x

OP. I too have worked in Hospitality, for over 40 years, and have encountered every type of person in Guest, Visitor, Supplier & Contractor forms, plus numerous others too.

My first HR manager welcomed me with these words, "Welcome to Hotels, where it would be wonderful if it wasn't for the bloody customers!

You'll meet all types of people, good or bad or indifferent. You'll be thanked, sworn at, even have parents or lack of them brought into the abuse, but you'll be a better person for not replying to the negativity you WILL encounter.

Don't answer back, don't kiss and tell, don't tell people where to go, and you'll go far in life!"

Wise words, which I have generally abided by. A true Hotelier is the soul of discretion but when I write my book of Life in Hotels, god help everyone!

Retirement didn’t suit me so I work term time only in various children's centres, pupil referral units, primary and secondary schools as well as colleges.

When children don't go to school because they're playing computer games and teachers go to them, or parents rock up at ten because little Johnny didn't feel like getting up...I just want to say "allow me..."

"Get your own back, spit in their food"

You say that but I have seen it done, that’s why I would never give someone who has access to my food or drinks any shit at all,

A fair few years back there was this terrible couple staying at my hotel, complaining about everything, wine not cold enough, med measure was not enough, saying we should sell them glasses of the expensive wine that was not house, the view was not good enough, anyway I was new ish to working there and the station head had listened to as much of this as he would take so her next glass of wine had his cock dipped in it before she got it and at breakfast their toast was rubbed against his bare ass before they had it, Adam was a rather large guy and it was a warm summer. We watched her drink it and them butter the toast next morning

From them on I vowed to always be nice to people who handle my food

I worked with a Russian girl, very attractive but had a right attitude. She would go on about how terrible the UK is and how she missed Mother Russia. She was also pretty useless at her job as well, my boss had hired her for her looks

Well I lost it one day with her. I explained to her in quite a nasty way that, this country has Shakespeare and Dickens, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Amazing Directors as David Lean and Alfred Hitchcock. We started Football, Rugby and Cricket some of the greatest Racing Drivers. Then went into our business from Virgin to Reebok...

Eventually after listing several more achievements I snarled at her that I hadn't got round to Ireland, Scotland and Wales... Even they gave the World Tom fucking Jones

And then I said compare the size of our two countries.. all you gave the World is crap dancing, Battleship Potemkin and Rudolph Nureyev.

Well we never talked after that rant
