Cervical cancer advice at your beauty salon .......

"Would you welcome being given advice about cervical cancer screening from a beauty technician at a beauty salon where you'd gone for beauty treatments ?"
Well I get there more often than the docs so could work. Theres a good concentration of women there so again could work. There's no secrets between me and my hairdresser either.
Obviously they'd have to be trained.
Anything that encourages women's health or mens is a good thing. |

If it was given as sensible advice from one woman to another then yes why not, I don’t think anything bad by another person giving advice of any matter really. But if a person is using it as a platform to give advice I’d probably not feel I was in the zone anyway everything I get done is sore as hell and I’m not really listening as I’m too busy focusing on the pain anyway |

I've never been to a beauty salon. Depending on what they said I'd find it too personal/ possibly rude.
They're doing tv adverts trying to encourage more women to go for smears. Only the same kind of thing I suppose. |

As someone who is currently waiting for more tests following an abnormal smear test (And trying not to worry)
I think anything that gets more women to go for smear tests is good

"Surely its dependant, if they see something that they know is a symptom then it's best to give advice so that person can potentially get themselves checked "
Cervical cancer symptoms wouldn't show up to anyone else anyway. |

I do too. I'm not saying get your smear done there. Lots of younger women go to salons who never think about these things so it may serve as a reminder.

Anything to promote women of all ages getting their smear tests is a good thing surely.
But..
Even when you've had the all clear, you can still get it months after your last check, so my advice would be to go with your gut,if it doesn't feel right it usually isn't and push for more tests.
Only you can fight for your body.

Like a leaflet for instance, that I could pick up or not? I wouldn't have any objection to that. I just don't want to be having my roots touched up and be given unsolicited advice about a health check that I've always attended.
The same as I don't want to go into the post office and have the guy weighing my parcel saying ",by the way you should be eating at least five portions of fruit and vegetables a day, wearing a seat belt and using less single use plastic" |

I actually got got brilliant advice from my beautician a few years back, told me to see the doc as I had what she thought Basal cell skin cancer doctor confirmed and was really pleased beautician gave advice, had it cut out and all clear |

Maybe, inform the client on check in of said member of staff being fully trained in giving advice on smears. That way women can choose to approach her or not.

I did say fully trained, I assumed the government would implement training before allowing this to take place.
I agree we can't have anybody who's unqualified giving advice.
But I believe if it's done correctly then it's a good thing.
