"I'm off to Rome. What's to see?"
If you have good weather, try visiting the Villa Borghesse. Famous for the Spanish steps, it is a beautiful park. The gelatas are great, and so is the people-watching! |

"In all honesty Rome is high on my to do list.
The Roman Empire period of history fascinated me "
Do it! One of the best experiences in my life even though I didn't see a lot of it: had two days to kill en route to Milan where my sister lives.
Will definitely go back. |

"The road out!
After all, the Romans did fuck all for anybody! "
You can't say that sure they fucked anyone they got a sword near.
Ruined their economy because they had so many slaves no one could get jobs .
And the modern day priests fuck any children they like. And no one does nothing.

Get the roma pass. Gives you transport and entry 2 two places. I also found the hop on hop off bus tour great.
As to what to see. Even a walk around gives you amazing sites. I was stunned just with the bus from the airport to the bus station. I went 3 times last year and still have so much more to see |

If you are familiar with the movie Roman Holiday you will want to go see and put your hand in The Mouth Of Truth. We took our kids there when there were younger. As we queued up to put our hands in (wasn’t a long queue and it’s free but they ask for donation to the priory) I explained the story of why it got its name to the kids. When it was our turn they were scared to put their hands in the mouth but with some persuasion from us and the friar they did so, bringing their hands out with a look of relief that they were truthful and their hands hadn’t been bitten off. When it was my turn I put my hand in and smiled. Then all of a sudden I screamed and started pulling at my arm to try and drag myself away from the stone mouth. Our kids started screaming and came to my rescue, pulling me away.
When I pulled my hand out and it was still there they were confused until all the other people started laughing and clapping.
That is one of my fondest memories of our travels together.

I went twice last year. Vatican, Coliseum, Palatine hill, the pantheon, the Spanish steps, the trevi fountain, the circus maximus, the Altare della patria. Eat lots of gelato and try as many restaurants as you can, it's a beautiful city |

Oh and watch out for African guys pushing bracelets or little ornaments into your hand as "a gift" then walking off. They'll come back to you very shortly afterwards demanding money and laying on a serious guilt trip or getting aggressive. I fell for it at the Coliseum but quickly twigged on they were doing it at all the tourist sites. |

I have just come back. I got a 2 day a tour bus ticket. Tells you a little about the sights and you can get off at each one. The queues for the main attractions are mahoosive. You'll need a few days to visit them all. Have a lovely time.
Oh and good wine and food |
