Any Fabbers run the London Marathon yesterday or been inspired to run next year?

The chances of getting in are smaller now than ever as they've opened the ballot period for longer.

I might put my name in

"400.000 for yesterday s apparently "

More, that would make it a 10% chance and it was much lower than that.

It's still worth trying but since they've scrapped the 5 year rule it's kind of ridiculous. I'm going to put in for a charity place and go from there.

Some clubs get places so that improves people's odds.

The only degree of certainty is if you achieve a 'good for age' time at other associated marathons throughout the year. Those are pretty tough though, my age bracket requires a sub 3hr time to get a place!

Clubs affiliated with EA get a free place for every so many members. Most then ballot those off to members who have entered the official ballot but failed to get a place.

That's how I got mine 2 years ago.

I'll put in for the ballot again. If I don't get in , I think I'll sign up for a charity place. Ext year's is my last chance of doing one before I'm 40! Having spectated a couple of times, I know it's something I want to do, and having run a few half marathons, I'm sure I've got it in me to do one!

I did it yesterday with my sister. Wasn't my first but it was by far my hardest.

If you want another iconic run to do then The Great North run is a great experience too.

I wanted to do it when I was 14 and my brother was doing the mini marathon with David Weir... my claim to fame they went to the same school.

Anyways I then discovered pubs so never entered, now, I cannot even run 5k. Feb I started the couch to 5k app and well I struggle with that let along 26 miles where your toe nails can fall off and mens nipples bleed....

I did it yesterday in a smidge over 4 hours. I’m quite happy with that seeing as I only found out I’d got a charity place at the end of Jan.

Will be putting myself in the ballot again this year.

Are you still managing to have a go at couch to 5k?

That’s how I did it this year, and I’m so glad I did. It was my second time doing a charity place, so now I know what works fundraising wise, and it was easier to hit my target this time.

Those half marathons will have put you well on the way to being able to do one fitness wise.

Yes I ran, a little under 3 hours this year partly thanks to the more favourable weather conditions.

Good for age is no longer guaranteed due to VLM trying to balance gender equality. It used to be if you got the time and applied you got a place, but now it is capped at 3,000 each male and female GFA places split equally amongst the 10 age groups is 300 places per age group.

You're all hero's...... And lunatics that do it!

I've worked the past 2 year's doing finish line massage for a couple of charities... Seeing those people put me off doing it! ( Also, running 2 miles destroys me)

Well done all!

Yep, I saw something like that. Basically you have to be amazing for age to get a place!

I'll stick to the ballot and charity places ta!

I'll be picking your brains for fundraising ideas then. I haven't done a half in about 18 months so I'll have to build up to it again.

I'm in the ballot again for next year but fully expect to run elsewhere (Brighton or Manchester probably) and spend VLM on my usual spit at around mile 17 with my charity cheering spot

Way over Yonder, that's where I'm bound

If you're looking for a great charity to run for, I suggest Back Up Trust. Spinal cord injuries can affect any of us at any time. They're brilliant.

Put my name in the hat again too. Was also thinking about Brighton or Manchester. I’ve done Manchester before but not Brighton.

Brighton is special to me and will always be my favourite race but it is very expensive particularly with the need to collect your number from the expo, last year we stayed in Littlehampton and the year before at Gatwick as Brighton hotels were so expensive. Amsterdam marathon is costing us less in flights and 4 nights accommodation than wee spent doing the last 2 Brightons! But I really rated Manchester too this year so already very torn which to do!
