How important is a name

A guy just told me he wouldn't see me (anyway) because of my name. Admittedly he was trying to be nasty as I had just turned him down but got me thinking. My name isn't fashionable but it belongs to me and I didn't really think it was all that important but am I wrong?

I wouldn’t fuck anyone with the same name as my dad....or whatever I name my son. So names are important in that sense

Your username or your given name?

Usernames do put me off sometimes.

Given name, I can't see why it would matter.

He did say he was snobbish and I have to agree but I guess if it’s the only bad thing he could find to say about me I ought to be pleased. Like he didn’t say I can’t date you because your ugly or too fat! I’ve just not got a posh enough name, but I’m sure it could be a lot worse

I have never read something so bloody stupid" would not meet because of a name. What has the persons name or user name got to do with what that person is like in real life.

Well I don’t really fancy moaning ‘david’ considering it’s my dad’s name. And my unborn son - I’ve chosen a name for him and when I maybe start to meet again in a year or two, I won’t meet anyone with his name

Names are important, sometimes your given one doesn't do much for your confidence and image, for example Marshal Djugashvili changed his name to Stalin and Corporal Schuckelgruber changed his name to Hitler!

He messaged you then after you turned him down he said he wouldn't meet you anyway because of your real name?

How bizarre.

Had a few user names that have put me off. Couldn't care about a person's given name.

He sounds like an absolute gobshite. Sounds like he doesn't rake rejection too well

Fantastic! You turned him down and he said 'well I never liked you anyway!' Some people are ridiculous, but I'm glad that they are as I need to find my amusement somewhere

I'm trying to think of a name that may put me off someone...Gertrude,

Harold maybe. I wouldn't like to think so.

No...I wouldn't judge a person just on their name.

I don't ask for names, I don't want to know. So if they do tell me their name I won't meet them.

How very bizarre!

I can’t see how a name alone would put someone off meeting.

I’ve met men with the same name as my dad and I can assure you he’s not on my mind at the time...

Couldn’t meet someone who had the same name as my cat

But as that’s Monty or when he’s done wrong, Shitler, it’s quite rare, so it’s not happened yet

I went out with a girl called Sharon many many years ago. We never had sex, but the foreplay was amazing. I say, have you ever lived in Shropshire?

Your hubby is safe

I've had messages from men, same name as my ex. No!

One the other day. Oh his photos, swoon. Profile, ticked every box.

2nd message, gave his real name.

My dad's name, also son No2s middle name.

No. Just no.

Anything family related, is an isn't no for me

Usernames put me off but actual names definitely not. Even if it’s the same name as a family member it doesn’t. It’s not that person!

To be honest if anyone had the same name as my crazy ex I'd struggle big time saying it out loud.. so unless they were my perfect match I'd avoid..

your imagination

Usernames yes....

Real names.. Hmmm... Maybe if I associated a name with someone I dislike. Same kind of reasons why new parents rule out certain names for their kids... 'oh I went to school with a xyz and he bullied me'. If I didn't know someone, that might be enough... But tbh on here I tend to chat with people for quite a while before real names are exchanged, so I have already formed a rapport and gotten to know them a little by then, so finding out their real name won't make any difference
