Earlier today someone referred to Carter89, Tame Impala and I as Alpha males.

What's your opinion? Do you subscribe to whole Alpha/Beta theory? If you don't.. Why? Of you do.. Would you agree? Are all three of us? Are any of us? Any other person you would call Alpha? Why? And why not?

If there are Alpha males then surely there are Alpha females amongst your ranks?

It's a thing in Natural World, which we are part of, were also very domesticated and have different views on what is and isn't.. I'm just being curious.

noone stands outbon the forums as alpha make. Some like to think they are. I only remember one forumite as being alpha male and that was along while ago. He was called big bad. I just see people as fighting for attention these days

The alpha/beta thing doesn't apply to people, in my opinion... Alpha is too often used to excuse crappy human beings who behave like arseholes because "that is just how they are, being alpha males" twaddle!! Humans are no longer natural in their behaviours, or extremely rarely, these days, so alphas and betas no longer exsist

Genghis, none of you 4 are alpha males. I'm pretty sure two of them would find the idea hilarious and I suspect the third does too.

In all honesty I don't subscribe to that notion of gender roles. Some people are more dominant than others but I think that lies more in insecurity than self-assurance and authority.

An alpha male doesn’t need to or care necessarily what label they have, it’s about who you are in every day life, how you treat people (alphas don’t bully, they lead) and how you protect those you care about.

Most people who I have met and call themselves alphas have no clue what it means ir how they are the opposite

I don’t really like the labels, but I do have to believe in the concept - in my framework it’s just a matter of “submissive or assertive” - and I am definitely the former. If someone who is the latter wants to label themselves Alpha, I won’t argue... it’s not in my nature.

They put themselves first and only 'lead' others who serve a purpose in achieving survival of the Alpha. The stereotypical perception of the Alpha as physically strong, intelligent and a considerate leader of others is utter bollocks.

I'd agree.. but there's loads more to it for me. A lot of pack leaders don't even know they're doing it and would alter their behaviour if they did. There are a few forum users I have called Alpha, which they flat out deny. Yet they lead naturally, because people like to be around them.

It's a huge topic when it comes to humans, given our complex behaviour.

Add sex into the mix. Observing D/s as it naturally occurs, rolling with it. Meeting couples and socialising.

Indeed. It's a more complex subject entirely. Dominance theory is a vast mish mash of conjecture and speculation as is the idea of social dominance. Interesting subject but like a lot of aspects of human behaviour is massively subjective in nature. Both are definitely worth researching more methinks. It's a thing in Natural World, which we are part of, were also very domesticated and have different views on what is and isn't.. I'm just being curious.

I've been described as such before (which whilst generally dom still surprised me a little) and was curious myself as to what constitutes an Alpha, if indeed it even exists?

I think the closest I can fathom out from others' discussions is that it relates to a Male who is generally dominant and confident in himself but not for the sake of it or for his own ego and generally doesn't feel the need to shout about being so?
