Don't do it....I have been in the industry all my life. Have a great gastropub and hotel now but God it's hard work. But I love it really....Just don't tell anyone that.

Hit the areas outside of city centre as you'll be too swamped with bigger competition. Market research to fuck your areas. Student areas such as Lark Lane, Smithdown, Outskirts of town are good locales. Keep fixed costs down as much as humanly possible so you can invest resources into giving quality products and service x it's a long slog. Been in the formation of a Viking themed bar called The Longhouse for two years and it's a arduous process. PM if you need any pointers on paperwork and financial backing. Had a few ideas and experience with those. Good luck we need more of them x

I dont doubt it would be hard work and crap money, but I'd be doing summat I enjoyed.

20 years in the same job and I'm ready to throw myself out the window!

Nows the time, I think.

Its stuttering at the minute due to a lack of backers so it's in the hands of the others these days x havent got the ability, energy or stability to spearhead it any more but hoping it will soon come to fruition x

"What are you going to call it?"

Good pork scratchings sourced from the West Midlands (make sure you never run out too). Also good quality scotch eggs. Provide them with your ale and we will be there.

My ex husband runs one, what would you like to know?

The one he has is obviously small but cosy, they don’t have music playing and lots of candles, books and dominoes to play, the business side of it I don’t know much but I’m happy to ask him for you.

He does very well (he doesn’t own it, just manages it) most of the time but where his is situated it’s in the middle of a sizeable village with two pubs a stones throw away but he has some regulars that decided not to go to the big pubs anymore in favour of his place, as it’s like a proper little old mans place with lots of charm.

Unfortunately the actual owner (a bit like ours) is a complete tool who has no idea about running a successful business!

This. Top quality bar snacks are great. Especially if you are serving craft beer. To survive these days you need an edge.

We need a place to have good bar snacks because is the beer is good there's a chance we may be there a long time.
