What is the longest time you managed with no sleep?

Not sure if it's just a urban myth or not, but apparently, Maggie Thatcher used to get by on only 4 hours a night sleep. Which got me thinking, what is the longest amount of time you have managed without sleep?

Thatcher was a lightweight, lol

I suffer with insomnia. Still haven't slept since I had a wee nap yesterday morning

Have gone 48 hours without any sleep before now.

Not that I'd recommend it

I think about 38 hours is the longest. I need my sleep generally. 7-8 hours or else I’m just not on form. Some days though I’d love to be able to function on less and still be productive. It’s a great way to add a bit longer to those busy days.

Some people can get by on less sleep, it’s just the way it goes.

I’ve done about 36 hours a few times but I wasn’t working very efficiently for the last half

"About 40+ hours depending on ma medication "

Probably longer than that if you include a half an hour snooze in the recliner

Crikey, I've slept for almost 24 hours after I've been awake for a couple of days, it's a bugger when you've missed something on TV that you wanted to watch lol

At work once, during a particularly difficult period I was managing an “event”. I went to work on a Friday morning and then I was sent home on Sunday afternoon after being awake managing the “event” for 48 hours straight. I think I slept for the next 20 hours but it still didn’t feel like I’d caught up.

Just over 50 hours....it’s not a nice feeling. Mentally I was destroyed, physically my eyes hurt and there is only so much punishment your body can take before no amount of caffeine or pro plus has any effect!

I crashed for 2 days to recover!

Never again!

Suddenly activity is all your doing, you achieve very little

65 hours and it was horrific, although there were a lot of stimulants involved - I was a very messy 20 something

When I was on my 20’s I’d only ever get 4 hours a night and I was fine.

Now if you wake me under 6-8 hours I’ll cut you

After one of my 36 hour sessions I’d gone to bed and when I woke up it was dark and the clock said 8:15. I genuinely didn’t know if it was am or pm

I regularly work nights so I’m awake for 24-26 hours at a time! I then don’t sleep well between nights so I feel like I’m in a constant ‘hungover’ state without the fun that goes with it!

I stayed up for 48 hours to start and finish my dissertation at uni. By the end it was just waffle.

Just around the corner

I’ve survived for about three days, but I can usually get by on about six hours a night anyway.

"I used to fly to China for work, and would expect a 42 hour initial day"

That sounds like me. I would commute from Birmingham to Heathrow, then work a flight to Hong Kong and then go out drinking when I got there and be out for 12 hours or so.

Not quite as extreme as some on this thread, had one incredible weekend in Canada years ago.. worked the Friday morning, drove for 2 hours, full weekend in Edmonton (had about an hours kip Sat night.. I was a busy boy) then set off back at 2am Monday morning for a 6am work start..

Had one horrific shift that was a continuous 26 hours, but over 3 time zones (America, mid Atlantic and uk).

Another bad one was going from 2 weeks of 14 hr night shifts, then double shifting straight into 14 hr day shifts. The first 2 day shifts were trippy as fuck..belt feeding tea to stay awake..

I work alternate weeks of days and nights. On a week of nights I rarely get more than 12 hours from Mon to Thurs..

Hiding in the shadows

I have ADHD, I average about 4hrs sleep most nights.

I can also regularly go 3 or 4 nights with no sleep, my brain just won't switch off.

When I lost my partner I wouldn't sleep for about 3 days at a time, until I just past out (I know that's spelt incorrectly) . Only thing I remember about it was the longer I was awake, the more awake I felt, it made me feel hyper, it was really fucked up

I am the same. I regularly function on 4 hours a day and the longest I have gone without REM sleep is a week.

I've gone a few days on less than 2 hours on military exercises, lots of coffee, pro plus and Haribo to try and stay awake, especially when on sentry! it starts getting weird when the hallucinations kick in, seeing things moving in the trees at night or hearing chatter on the radio which isn't real.

Iraq, our camp was put on high alert for imminent attack. For 5 days I was on a rota of 4 hours on guard, 4 hours off. Except on the 4 hours off we were classed as QRF (quick reaction force) wearing radios and had to stay close to the guard sangers. So was constantly on edge expecting something to come through the second we tried to nod off.

That was hard going but thankfully nothing happened.

Sin.
