Yes Lemmy and Phil Lynott, in the song 'Kings Call' when he laments about Elvis dying in the lyrics he sings 'And I bought a bottle of wine and a bottle of gin
I played his records all night
Drinking with a close, close friend'
I did similar with Lemmy, playing Motorhead records and drinking heavily, but out of respect I was drinking Jack Daniels.
I tried the same when Phil Lynott died but was too young to drink |

There have been many, no matter what their age may be, but how do you define "shocking"? is it because you die before your time?
As I mentioned above, there are many people who have not brought their ultimate demise upon themselves, it was more a matter of unfortunate circumstances |

It isn't a competition - the OP asked which deaths shocked people. If Roger dying in his 60's was shocking to that person then that is answering the OP. If it wasn't shocking to you then great - difference of opinion and neither is wrong |

Lot's of sad untimely deaths, some not surprising and some that are part of life's inevitable cycle like old age.
It's the preventable and avoidable one's that get me.
Anton was tragic and a totally freak accident.
The one that got me was Justin fashanu
It wasn't that I was a fan of his or his team.
But he had the bravery to do something that no other professional footballer in this country had done before and at his level since.
It ultimately caused him to take his own life which was extremely sad all because he came out as openly gay.

Peaches Geldof, she was the only famous person I followed. Similar ages to me, her children similar to mine and our parenting ethos was very similar. Her death upset me, partly because I felt I had got to know her, and partly because of her children |

"I remember reading about the rock guitarist Randy Rhoads tragic death in a newspaper. He was only 25.
Wicked guitarist, I saw him with Ozzy at Monsters of Rock at Donington back in 1987 "
You saw his ghost. He died in '82 |

"Ayrton Senna
And Ratzenburger who died the same weekend "
I’ve just watched the Senna film on Netflix. I’m not a motorsport fan but his dominance of the sport and rivalry with Prost was headline news.
Such a tragedy. |

Just heard on the ten o’clock news on radio 4 the actor who plays Joe Grundy has died. I hope they don’t try and replace him, he was definitely my favourite character and really made the part his own. |

Honestly.
Keith Flint from the Prodigy.
A shock that he had died but more shocked at the statement that he'd made years before detailing why he would be found.
"Once I've achieved all I have to achieve I'm going to do it"
Shocking and chilling at the same time that a talented artist could so easily and fearlessly pre-decide he was cashing in his chips after his achievements and dreams were completed!!!

See now I'm more into bike racing, but there was James Hunt(ex World Champion) the best biker in the world at the time Barry Sheene
Hunt was F1. Sheene was Motorcycling. Simoncelli was killed in a MotoGP Race too. "

Totally agree, Barry Sheene the last British motorcycle champion at the highest level. 1976 & 77 FFS. Why have we not had anyone since?? |

Rick Parfitt. Like Rick, I grew up in Woking, and he was the town's hero. He was cremated at Woking Crem where I have been to many a family funeral. Other sad deaths were Elvis, Freddy Mercury and George Michael. |

I sneer at people who get upset over famous people dying.I can only think that they've never lost one of their own.
As an event though, Elvis' death was something else. |
