Can't speak for all towns and cities but I've walked around Manchester plenty of times to notice the amount of litter and dog shit there is,apparently there is a lot of human shit being found as well, homeless? Maybe the council don't have the workforce to keep our streets clean,be interested to know what your area is like

It makes me despair when I see people leaving their Greggs/McDonalds litter on the bench when there is a bin about 2 yards away

People are disgusting at times. Councils should have a scheme where you can photograph and report dirty disgusting scum who drop litter.

we live in a "tourist" area, through the winter the area is mostly litter free, however once we get lots of visitors it looks like a landfill site! whilst it is easy to "blame" the council lets be honest the true blame lays with those that throw their rubbish regardless

The problem it's the council's, it's the lazy, scumbag shits who litter. Absolutely drives me insane that people just can't be arsed to carry their litter home with them or god forbid, to the nearest litter bin.

agree 100% i work in a filling station, i have seen people parked NEXT to a litter bin ( there are 12 on the forecourt) simply wind their window down and through out a sandwich wrapper of paper coffee cup

Tourist season is worst. Went for a walk along the river last night which passes a chip shop and various pubs and every bin was overflowing and rubbish piled up all around them. At least people made it to the bins I guess but rather than seeing they were full and taking it with them instead our rubbish is always somebody elses problem.

We have massive drug littering problems currently in the town other than that it is kept pretty clean.

Many people complaining and understandably but how many of you pick any litter up and put it in a bin? I do, working on the principle "every little helps" !!! Much of country seems to suffer this littering problem, folk don't think or care about how they dispose of what they have finished with....

Sometimes we have an event in the Market Place which attracts many hundreds of people, there are vendors selling fast food, so naturally there is going to be a shed load of litter from this. What gets me is that the Council obviously know about this, but neglect to put staff on to empty the bins in that area throughout the course of the day. People do usually place their rubbish near to an already overflowing bin, but when the wind picks up, well you can just imagine.....

The city centre isn't that bad apart from Saturday night waste but some roads/streets I drive down have rubbish piled up due to the 2 week collection,

Dog poo bags should have address's on them because when I find out who keeps leaving them at the side of my house I'm going to post them through there letter box

Live in a small village where most people are very protective of its character and appearance, so dont have a massive litter problem.

Surely the problem isn't with the councils, just those who think the streets are the place to dump all their unwanted crap....

Probably the same people who go into rant mode about St George getting a public holiday.

Would you pick up someone else's litter, you really don't know what's in it and some people are pretty disgusting!

Central

The conservative government has cut £millions of taxpayers money from local councils, so peripheral services get cut. Though sexual health budgets cut a lot too.

Things aren't too dirty around me and Manchester didn't seem too bad, on my few weeks there. Part of it is the type of people using the space and lack of respect. Just desserts from our votes, thr main problem

I went to the zoo at the weekend, people paid £30 to get in, sat and listened to talks about conservation and protecting the environment and then got up and left their litter behind!!

I fucking hate humans! (And yes I cleared up after them while calling them some choice words)

Happens everywhere. Folk just walk away from their litter on trains and buses, most have some provision for collecting litter, or heaven preserve us, take it with you and find a bin!!!

^ This, there are far too many people who expect others to clean up after them. In our modern day throw away society, the blight on the landscape is getting worse by the day unfortunately

Council's budgets have been massively slashed and many areas rely on community litter pickers. My local council are currently trumpeting this as a great initiative but replacing paid staff with volunteers is rarely as good, let alone as ethical.

People still need to not be lazy arses though.

Whilst I agree that this approach keeps the streets clean, it doesn't change behaviours; those lazy, thoughtless individuals that drop the waste will just think it's brilliant that they can discard their rubbish where ever they wish only to do come back later and find it gone - magic self clean streets.

If fewer folk dropped their litter in the street/threw it out of the car/van window and more folk picked up litter the country would be cleaner tidier place. Folk should be responsible for their own actions.

I used to live at Little Eaton which is not too far from Belper, spent quite a few good nights down there to be honest, but that was about 10 years or so ago, It always seemed like a clean town to me, has it deteriorated in such a short space of time?

Not very clean here. Lots of litter. I live about the same distance from mc donalds as a drink and meal lasts before being thrown out a car window. Pisses me off. I pick up what i can. Mainly plastics and straws as they are more harmful than cardboard cartons

I was a naughty boy about 20 years ago and had to do some Community Service.

Litter picking along the side of the A38, we used to fill about 20 binliners with crisp packets, drink cartons and all manner of shit that had been ejected from passing cars
