Ya can't trust anybody on here. It's something I've always fretted about, particularly giving oral with no protection. I've never had any nasties myself but I do get checked and hope it never happens. I would be flipping mortified. |

Of course people will have done OP - if they didn't there would be no need for GUM clinics!!
It's a risk we all take by having non-monogamous sexual relations, far more important is the question of whether people take responsibility for their own sexual health and not only get regularly tested, but also take the time to inform themselves of the risks involved. It's quite frightening how little some people appear to know about STIs on here at times
Another question being, if someone told you they had had an STI in the past that was picked up during regular testing, had been treated and they were now clear, would you still have sex with them? |

"I got syphilis once or twice
It was fine though, I just used my wire brush and some Dettol"
That’s terribly crude!
A much better way now is to go through a car wash sitting on the bonnet with legs apart and let the brushes do their thing.
It also saves on having a shower |

It's sad how many people think that testing is only for when you think you've caught something. And that only dirty people get an STI.
Many people think that people who get tested must be filthy and doing risky things.
Other people catch stuff. Not them. No.

The reality is its quite common place in the scene. I've been ridiculously fortunate not to have anything personally but have had friends with infections or 2nd contacts etc.
I must have been for 30+ unscheduled screenings over the past 2.5 decades and have taken plenty of 'just Incase' antibiotics whilst awaiting results, its happened in recent months.
For me its always a scenario if trust and transparency... Strangely those I've met on scene who I feel safest with are those who have been unlucky but also shown concern for me as soon as they've found out. |

110% agree... And inevitably you see them licking and sucking everything in a club. Oral transmission is the biggest risk out there in reality x |

I would now always choose someone who is tested regularly over someone who is stupid enough to assume they'll be fine cause the people they fuck bb are 'fine' despite them actually having no idea.....
Idiotic stance to think someone is ok cause they have no visible symptoms and cause you wouldn't assume they are high risk. |

Personally speaking, and referring back to my previous post, if someone I was planning on meeting told me they had had an STI in the past that had been picked up through regular testing, treated and that they'd been confirmed clear since, and if all my other instincts about meeting someone held good, I'd not be put off.
What would put me off more would be someone who didn't get regularly tested and didn't take their sexual health seriously. |

Yes I would. They have demonstrated two most important things here on fab. Honesty and responsibility for their sexual health and others they meet. Thought it annoys some and stopped meets it's a topic I'll discus with someone before meeting them. If they're uncomfortable or refuse then chatting will end soon afterwards. I insist on seeing proof of recent tests too, if they don't like then I assume they've something to hide. Harsh but it's important to me and others I meet. |

The problem is not all stds are actually visible or tested for. For example men can't be tested for HPV so will never know they have it unless they have a particular strain that presents symptoms. Yet they can pass it to women who now get tested as part of the 3/5 year smear tests. The only reason they're tested is for early detection of change in cervical cells, not because the virus displays any symptoms. As it's seen as no more than a cold there's no treatment, but it's still classed as an std because of its transmission. If 8 out of 10 people will get it at some point the likelihood is that many already do and simply don't know. |

HPV and HSV are probably the most common of the STIs and also not tested for as part of regular testing, nor do they have any cure - they *are* relatively harmless in all but very rare cases and as you say the majority of people that are sexually active with multiple partners are likely to come into contact with them at some point and most will never know.
Yet a lot of people appear to be ignorant of them. |

I caught human papillomavirus or HPV from my children's dad. I was told it's passed on by sex and multiple sexual partners. Which is how I knew he cheated on me.
I found found out by a smear test during my 7th month of pregnancy. I had to go through a colposcopy whilst still pregnant. They wouldn't wait until I had the baby.
Very serious condition. One that I feel men in particular don't seem to concern themselves with.
I also had a meet from here who brought condoms (I saw them on his bedside table) and I assumed he used one. To my horror after he had cum, soon realised he never put one on! I was horrified! Shocked by his behaviour. Yes I went to be tested. As it happens, got results back today. All negative!
I still feel betrayed I supposed by his attitude and behaviour. Still least I'm safe. |

That's shocking and totally out of order, and good news the results are good.
HPV can be passed on in many ways and not just through sexual contact dependent on the strain and type - it also can't be protected against, which is why it is so prevalent.
I don't think it's so much that men don't concern themselves with it, as people generally aren't fully aware of it, it often presents no symptoms, it can't be tested for in men, and comes in many forms (there are over 100 strains of HPV - verucchas are one, a wart on your hand is another etc etc etc), most are completely harmless and even the cancers it can lead to only happen in a minority of cases. |

Practically every case of cervical cancer is "caught" by the HPV virus. My GP and Midwife told me that. Info on it is easily seen on the NHS website.
I never slept with anyone except my kids dad. I told my GP this and it was them who said in all probability, it was my ex who passed it onto me.
I'm afraid the truth of the matter is men do pass on the HPV virus. Yet it's us women who suffer due to it.
Honestly I'm not man bashing. I love you men honestly. However, I'd rather go with what my GP, Midwife and gynecologist told me.
Another reason young teenage girls are given the HPV jab before they're sexually active. |

I had cancerous cells on my cervix caused by the HPV virus. As is the case with nearly all other women who had/have cervical cancer. Which the professionals told me is passed on to us women by men or multiple sexual partners. Including sharing sex toys. I don't use sex toys,so that bit never applied to me.
Teenage girls have the HPV jab before they're sexually active to prevent them "catching" cervical cancer. |

"I caught human papillomavirus or HPV from my children's dad.

I’ve had a colposcopy myself. I just wondered why only girls had the vaccination when men can get cancer from it too. My question has been answered. It is more prevalent in women. |

Oh please don't get me wrong, I am absolutely not doubting the word of your GP, midwife or gynaecologist and what they told you in your circumstances.
It is however important to understand that HPV comes in many forms, and it can be passed on by both men and women - the problem is however that unless symptoms are displayed men won't know they have it, and women will only know if it shows up as part of a smear test.
It also doesn't help that HPV can be in your system for an unknown period of time after you have it and there is no way of knowing if it has gone - it might clear after a month, it might never clear, and that is why the figure is around 60% of sexually active people in Western Europe are thought to have it. |

This is true as i remember looking into it quite thoroughly before consenting to the vaccinations for my girls. |

It's equally prevalent in both but the link to cervical cancer is much stronger than the link to throat cancer in men in terms of number of cases with the hpv virus and the fact it's not currently able to be tested for in men. |

It doesn't matter who has had what - it's about keeping your health and having frequent tests. Plus ensuring your local services are funded correctly, by voting appropriately. Budgets and services have been cut across the country |

"How many people share sex toys with others but don't put condoms on them?"
Another minefield. Raised this about 5 yrs ago but of course as a newbie and single male I was laughed at, but I still maintained my stance on it when everyone was pointing at others. Many will have a rock solid position on safe sex but share toys at clubs, social and parties in group play with some whom they've never chatted to before meeting them. |

And how many people wash their hands when they're on a bed in a club fingering/ touching multiple cocks and pussies. |
