"-phobic means aversion and hatred of a thing, too, not just fear."
Good to see you back fella!
Agreed.
People read it as fear, it's not, unless it's the fear that a gay man is going to treat them the way that they treat women... |

It's not really a phobia, they just started saying that to try and kind of make fun of people who didnt like gay people, kind of make them look weak.
In reality it is expressing your straight sexuality in a negative way.
ie - I think man on man sex is disgusting
vs - I love sex between a man and a woman.
If a gay person does the same thing, is it hetrophobic?
ie - sex between a man and woman disgusts me.
vs - I love sex between two men.
this is of course a general sense of "homophobic" the people who beat someone up for being gay, I dont think they fear gay people, I just think they are disgusting twats. |

Mostly to do with religion and hate... People dont like it so they hate people for it and get told they'll go to hell or be punished for it.
It's a thing that probably will become more acceptable in the future as religion becomes less of a thing.
I have nothing against gays or trans, I have a gay stepbrother a few gay, lesbian friends and know a few trans.
I see nothing wrong with it, whoever you share your love with as long your happy together it doesn't matter what others think.

I can be straight but not repelled or even remotely disgusted by two ppl having gay sex though...? |

Of course, and gay people can be gay without being repulsed by straight sex, but some of them are repulsed by it.
It's not an on and off thing, its a scale from 1 to 10. |

English is a complex language. ‘-ist’ can denote being a supporter of something (socialist) or a denegrator of something (sexist). Common mis-usage means that ‘-phile’ (an appreciator of something) and ‘-philliac’ (a fetishist of something) are often used in place of each other or as synonyms. It doesn’t help that English has folded so many different languages into its creation.
There’s rarely a hard and fast rule that can be applied in every case, and frequently we get it wrong... for example, people aren’t sure if the plural is ‘octopuses’ or ‘octopi’, because a lot of our words for the natural world are derived from Latin, and a lot are from Greek, and there are different rules for pluralising in each. Strictly speaking, it should be ‘octopodes’ (pronounced octo-po-dees) but that fell out of use years and years ago, so it’s ‘octopuses’. |

It doesnt strictly mean fear.
For instance hydrophobic rejects water (oil is hydrophobic)
Its much like trans and cis people just nick Latin to make new words |

Ease of speech.
Biggest reason is we use the word that sounds "right".
Homophobe sounds better than homoist and is easer to say |

In human terms you and me are cis males (our genetic and mental state align).
In isomerism cis means the functional groups are on the same side trans means thier on oposite sides.

Language is a fluid medium, where words move between languages, between specialist sections of language or groups of people. There are quite a few words that have entered into mainstream language from medicine, psychology and psychiatry and whilst these often have an understanding amongst the general public, it will often be different from the areas where they were first used. Most of us won't have specialist training or experience but will pick up on the more popularised understanding of these words. Otherwise, words stem from their older roots, where they may have changed meaning many times over.
With behaviour, beliefs and many aspects of what it means to be human, these typically exist upon wide spectra, where the more extreme ends of these may become severe conditions, that are potentially disabling. Phobias represent an irrational fear, that for some may cause extreme stress that appears outside of their conscious control - such as sudden panic, when seeing a spider.
Homophobia, transphobia etc have been somewhat more recent additions, their root potentially following from an old Greek origin, meaning fear.
The English language is wonderful, how it can evolve and reflect changes in everyday useage, incorporating elements from languages old and current - about all of life. |

Hydrophobia is the only thing holding your cells together.
The doubble layer membranes are made of phsopholipids with hydrophilic heads and hydrophobic tails.
Which results in them forming lovley little bubbles in water with thiet tails on both sides inwards and head sticking out making a nice cell wall |

Cis is the oposite to trans basicsly.
In chemistry it refers to the symmetry of molecule around a carbon bond.
In sexuality trans means somone whose sec and gender are differnt cis is where they are the same.
Cis is the "norm"* if you will.

I'm not sure what you're asking.
I've not really noticed "Phobic" Used when discussing sexuality.
Though I'd assume it's a 100% one way or the other.. Who is so genuinely disgusted or really afraid of those who arent the same as them.
I think of phobia in terms of irrational fear. Like my fear of spiders. I know house spiders can't hurt me, but I sweat and freak out a bit. Once tried to hold a tarantula and almost fell over.
I used the word fear in my interpretation of your question. I was think more fear of ones true self. Or a social fear of sorts, lack of experience and/or friendship with those who are different. A lack of knowledge and understanding. Fear of changing times, fear of the unknown. Self doubt. Not phobic.. however the dictionary describes it.. us masses tend to associate the word with snakes, slugs, heights, confinement, open spaces.. wierd stuff that shouldn't scare in a safe environment.

I guess I have slung that word about.. but only at people who would discriminate against me based on my sexuality alone. Homophobic may be the wrong word though.. Homohatred or Homostupid may be more accurate. |

"I'm not sure what you're asking.
I've not really noticed "Phobic" Used when discussing sexuality.
Calling bullshit on you have never noticed the word homophobic
oh yeah.. homophobic.. lol.. yea.. never heard of that
I guess I have slung that word about.. but only at people who would discriminate against me based on my sexuality alone. Homophobic may be the wrong word though.. Homohatred or Homostupid may be more accurate."

"im false eyelasphobic,,,woke up once n saw one on my pillow,,thought it was a spider
I woke up and found a spider on my chest. I think that's what did it for good. Eyelashes? Fake ones only? Or do your own freak you out more?
I once took a gulp of "bedside" water, then realised i had a spider in my mouth! Poor thing. "
maybe it was a false eyelash |

"I can be straight but not repelled or even remotely disgusted by two ppl having gay sex though...?
Of course, and gay people can be gay without being repulsed by straight sex, but some of them are repulsed by it.
It's not an on and off thing, its a scale from 1 to 10.
Haha the amount of gay guys i know who literally shriek and run from a vagina as if itt was a man sized spider is unreal"

"Good to see you back fella!" Not sure I am, but cheers.
"Homophobic may be the wrong word though.." Only if you don’t know the full definition of ‘-phobic’... which you’ve already told us you don’t. |

I'm black and dont have a big cock.
i get messages from gay people and bi people, even if they show interest, I'll politely respond.
Now, when you get a message from someone that says they'll blow ur cock.
why is that so different from receiving the same email as a woman?
It is an unwarranted email, I'm that grown up I will read and delete where appropriate. |
